If you're talking local; I'd go to Main Stream. My 600hp Honda was daily driven and sold last year. After 2 other owners, the most recent one bent some valves, but it's still going strong...

i need someone in the ga area, like i said is going to do a good job, machining it and putting it together. i dont want to take it anywhere where there going to just slap it together. its goin to be for nitrous, fully built motor and head, b series. i want a place or person with good reviews that rarely has problems, problems are going to happen sometimes. about mainstream ive herd half bad and half good. i want a motor built but i want it done right.
High Compression + nitrous
or
low compression + nitrous
Which are you choosing to go with
10.5 to 1 plus nitrous so when no nitrous it will still have power like on the way to work.
10.5.1 and nitrous is fine. get it tuned and it'll be a fun daily driver. Since you're on the south side, hit up NV performance. He builds alot of high HP cars. He built AnclyT's car on here. He is rated 4th in the top 10 in the kills forum.
Local Shops:
Batlground aka Batlground.com or email [email protected]
Vuongs Garage -770-374-9449
Mainstream Performance 678-567-9384 aka mainstreamperformance.com
ILOVEBOOSTs motor was NOT built by mainstream, it was built by GOLDEN EAGLE in california.
However Mainstream did the turbo kit and tuning, top end assembly and the car made TONS of power. IIRC it still runs to this day over 40k miles later, not bad for a 630whp LS
Not trying to start anything daniel, just saying that GOLDEN EAGLE shipped that shortblock already assembled.
Which leads me to the next choice:
Golden Eagle Manufacturing can ship you a sleeved and assembled block for around $3200 with rods, pistons, sleeves, bearings , machine work already included. youll need to purchase the timing belt, oil pump, oil pan, etc seperately, but its a built motor backed with somewhat of a warranty.
It will all come down to preference. Call everyone, email everyone, ask around GA, and you will come to the answer you want.
All 4 places i listed you can trust.

LOL that thing gets passed around more than...........well, you know.Originally Posted by iloveboost

To be honest, have the sleeving company do the build on the bottom end if you are after HIGH HP.(thats if you are sleeving it) They have all the precision measuring tools to make the clearance dead on versus using plastigage on bearings like most people do. OF course, more $$$ I am about to do a K-series 500HP RSX build for a customer and I am letting Laskey Racing ( Benson sleeves ) do the sleeves and bottom end assembly.
mainstream built the bottom end on my last boosted db8...it wasn't sleeved, just pistons and rods. and it ran like a champ, had no issues with it b4 i totalled the car, lol. i sold it to juanb...he had it in a civic and i think now is using that same motor in an integra shell. and that was a good 9 months or so ago...
i'd go with mainstream...fair prices and they stand by their work
Why in the hell would you let a "SHOP" build youre motor.
Why don't you go to a machine shop....its kinda what they do.

I dont' care to be in the middle of your crap slinging contest, but you can't deny MSPi has built great cars and will continue to do so. It's why they are still in business making people happy. They must be doing something right.

A lot of machine shops don't particularly specialize in engine building.Originally Posted by Big Baller
Most engine building shops have some sort of machinist backround, and do the neccessary work in house. A place here in PA, Specializes in mostly big/small block V8's. However they've told me several times when I wanted a big bore done, that they'd do it for 150+ parts. Which isn't to bad deal, considering they'd have to bore, hone, and/or sleeve. I dont know for sure off hand.
Sure a machine shop would be good just for the clearance and such, but engine shops who do this work daily, would be my first choice. Hands down.

I don't know any machine shops that don't assemble.
