I agree as well, you deff get what you pay for with HID>
agreed.....much better lighting as well. If you do the cheap bulbs you will actually lose visual distance.

I highly recommend ether the Sylvania Silver Star or the Mtec bulbs. (Set on ebay for under $40). You asked about "look" so I'll answer the question. But there is a lot of truth in what the people above me said.

The color and light output of the HID bulb has to do with the kelvin range. Kelvin is the temperature that the light output is measured with. The color contrast usually goes from yellow to white, white to blue and to purple as it gets higher. The bulbs will put out different colors as the bulb and ballasts warm up.
There are companies that will mimic HID coloration by using a mixture of different types of gas and by dipping or coating bulbs to achieve this look. In my opinion they have very poor light output and look like crap...
I got TSX projectors retrofitted into my TYC 1 piece housings with Hella ballasts, Hella ignitors Phillips 8000K D2 bulbs, for under 600 dollars....
My advice is to drop the extra money and get what you really want deep down. The bulbs are rated for 25000 hours of use and the Hella components have a 2year warranty. It's worth it.

I say go with the HID's and not waste your time or money on the cheap look alike bulbs. I didnt think Phillips made anything over 6000K bulbs though.
