    Default lookin into a possible 93-94 rx7

how are these cars? are they pretty reliable? i am seeing that most people are rebuilding the motor at like 100k miles or less. Any information is appreciated.

bad tuning and rotary's dont mix. id say a turbo rotary would last about 120-150k with a good tune. i wouldnt say that rotary's arent reliable. they can just be high maintenance sometimes. id think if you get on youd like it. im on my second and looking at another (2nd gen FC)

well not many people have them and they hold value well. Plus a 1.3TT motor putting out around 255hp isnt to shabby. Just dont wnat to go buy one and it be a piece ya know.

255 is at the fly. the avg about 210ish wheel hp bonestock. if you get one thats stock the best thing top do is have it dynoed and see where its at. if your going to buy one your best bet would ask what the commpression is. you can tell alot by the commpression of a rotary. low 90's and above is good. ask if its the factory motor (look at the miles if factory) or rebuilt (find out who rebuilt the motor and the miles now oh and if it was broken it proplery). theres been some guys on the RX7 fourm im on sent there motor off to be rebuilt and get it back and its done half ass, then they put it in and either blow it of mess something up and end up rebuilding it themselfs. not trying to scare you but some people are more interested in your money than return bussiness. hope this helps ya

Has the motor already been replaced? What mods have been done?

ya thats alot of miles for a 3rd gen if its not already rebuilt. those cars, most anyways have lead hard lives. most owners dont maintain them properly (yes they do have to be babied), like checking and changing oil regularly, warming it up b4 every use and letting the motor/turbo cool after uses (this is a big one that many owners neglect), and if modded u have to be very careful, 3rd gens with MBC/EBC's most often at times have been overboosted. and any other list of problems that can go wrong with a rotory. they IMOA r great cars and i would love to own a 3rd gen but just becareful and dont be supprised if the car u buy ends up needing more work than you initailly intended. gluck and good hunting

Actually, you don't want to baby it. It was designed to be a race car. If you run it at low rpms all the time it sill suffer oil starvation. That is the problem that Mazda ad to fix in 94, and it is the reason a lot of engines went out at 60-70k miles.

actaully i meant maintaining it properly not feathering the throttle. and ive worked at mazda personally and can tell you ive seen too many 3rd gen owners bring their cars in due to poor mait. and being unaware of how differently rotory engines must be taken care of. same problem with RX-8s.. check the gas and fill the oil
