punch a big screwdriver through it and twist

Get a big pair of channel locks, and do it. Or a screwdriver and stab it.

You really dont need a hammer. I bought the wrong filter wrench for mine so I couldn't get it off by hand. So I stabbed it and shoved it with the palm of my hand and it went right through lol

the half moons that clamp tighter as you loosen with a socket wrench is the only way to go

claw style that clamp/crush the can as you try to turn it looser until it breaks loose is the way to go. no filter will ever not come off w/ those no matter how tight it is.

Sounds like we need to have a DIY oil change tech thread for the maintenance impaired.

    1) Always wipe oil around the rubber gasket on the new filter.
    2) Rotate new filter clockwise until it touches then give it a 1/4 turn more.

i have the halfmoon wrench thing but i didnt have the space to get in there. the screwdriver method worked, though the can got ripped to pieces and now theres oil all over my hoses and wires in my engine bay...

the grip doesnt do shit if the filter is stuck. once i got the screwdrivers in it i had to attach a 2ft breaker bar and it was still really hard to twist it.
