    Default Mostly DD, some weekend warrior Tire choice

    I've been looking into which tires to get and wanted to get some input from you all. Mostly be DD type driving, some weekend warrior action maybe, but mostly just a good performance street tire. I think I've narrowed it down to the Nitto NT555 and the Yokohama AVS ES100. I have found them fairly competively priced running the nittos at 225/40/17 all around and the Yokohamas at 215/40/17 front and 235/40/17 rear. Just wanting to know if anyone has good or bad experiences with either one or any better suggestions. They will be going on a 240 by the way.

    I have had a set of NT555R's on my Trans-Am, and they dont last for shit. I have not had the AVS ES100, but I have had different yokohama tires on my different cars and they are ok... I say you get a set of street tires, and an extra set of wheels and tires for the weekend stuff. It will cost more now but be better off in the long run.

    I've been sticking with BFG T/A's lately.. their cheap, and have pretty good durability..

    ^^^ agree Nitto 555's don't last. Got Kuhmo's on the 240 I just bought, they seem pretty good so far.

    I have never heard anything good about Nitto. I say go with falken ziex 512's. But if you are dead set on one of those 2 then go with the yoko's.

    www.edgeracing.com has the Falkens for 70 in 215's. None in the other sizes.

    I would stay away from a staggered set up for the street. You might get better handling with the wider tires in the rear, but you lose the ability to ever rotate them.

    I'd stick with the same size all around. I haven't necessarily heard anything bad about the Nittos but the NT555 is a very sticky compound and will wear quickly. I haven't heard very good things about the Yokos.

    What sort of "weeknd warrior"-ing are you going to be doing with the car autocrossing, drifting, drag racing, HPDE? That will help in making suggestions.

    I have 555s on the front and 555DRs on the back of the Mustang. They suck. Period. Don't get them. I'm about to take them off and try to get a few dollars off them to get some better tires.

    The car wont' get driven daily on the street, just DD type driving. It won't be a dedicated race car and will see cruising time on the street, and go to track days and what not, I just don't want to get a set of full race tires that will wear super quick. I want something in between that when I take the car out of the garage I can rip and roar around and have great traction, but not full race so that once they heat up and cool down they are worthless.

    There are a couple of tire suggestions that I can make based on what you want to do with the car. I'd look at the Falken Azenis RT-615, Kumho ECSTA MX, or the like. Both of those tires are sticky street tires that are also pretty good for track day use.

    I have a friend with a Miata and the RT-615s and they held up really, really well getting abused by three drivers at a NASA-SE event at Rocingham last year.

    The thing to be comfortable with rearding any high performance tire is that driven hard, you're only going to get 10,000 - 15,000 miles out of them before they are worn out.
