This laptop was purchased 100% brand new from Dell directly with every possible upgrade from Dell and additional upgrades on top of that. This laptop is in completely BRAND NEW condition with absolutely NO signs of use. This laptop was purchased 100% BRAND NEW, custom-built to order. This is NOT refurbished or used! The only use it has had was for my customization services. The original configuration's MSRP was over $2,500 + tax and S/H, and that doesn't include the additional software. I have performed a LONG and intensive customization service which speeds up the laptop tremendously, removes bloatware/adware that came with the computer, installs MANY pieces of amazing software, and much more. Full Customization Service
Step 1 – Reformat & Repartition the Hard Drive
· This process deletes everything from the hard drive and starts off from a 100% clean slate.
Step 2 – Install Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit Edition
· It is important to emphasize that this is the 64-bit version of Vista Ultimate, NOT 32-bit. 64-bit operating systems have many advantages over traditional 32-bit operating systems such as big performance increase overall, faster processes, full use of 64-bit processors (such as this one), etc.
· ONLY 64-bit operating systems can see and use all 4GB of RAM Normal 32-bit can only see and use up to 3.2GB, even if there is 4GB of RAM installed.
· I AM THE ONLY PERSON ON EBAY OFFERING 64-BIT VISTA ULTIMATE ON A XPS LAPTOP! Dell does not even offer this!
Step 3 – Install 64-Bit Hardware Drivers & BIOS/Firmware Updates
· All of the hardware devices on the laptop need new 64-bit drivers to take advantage of the 64-bit operating system. Dell provides only some of these drivers on their website. The others, I had to personally search for and manually install and test. Every piece of hardware is guaranteed to function 100% correctly with full 64-bit drivers.
· The motherboard BIOS and DVD drive firmware were flashed to the newest versions available from Dell.
Step 4 – Download and Install All Available Windows Updates
· This is a LONG and tedious task that involves downloading every single update from Windows. This includes the necessary updates as well as the optional updates. All updates are installed and configured properly afterwards.
Step 5 – Download and Install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 RC
· Microsoft just released service pack 1 for Vista very recently. However, updating to SP1 can be a very confusing and hard task for most common users. Microsoft has not made SP1 an update available through Windows Update, but rather through a series of specific steps. This laptop has the full service pack 1 patch installed and updated.
· Service Pack 1 holds MANY advantages over standard Vista. Performance all around is greatly increased, many problems are addressed, battery life is increased, etc.
· Service Pack 1 is currently in its Release Candidate stage. This means that it is in its final evaluation stage before the final release candidate is made public in the first quarter of 2008. Because of this, SP1 places a watermark on the lower-right corner of the desktop that states “Windows Vista (TM) Evaluation Copy. Build 6001”
Step 6 – Perform Numerous System Tweaks
· MANY tweaks are applied to the laptop to ensure the highest performance possible without any sacrifice. Virtual memory is increased to 4GB to match the RAM, several BIOS options are enabled such as flash cache and AHCI, boot files are rearranged for faster booting times, registry entries are added and modified, TCP/IP limits are increased etc. are just a few examples of the many tweaks I apply.
Step 7 – Install and Update Office 2007 Enterprise Edition
· The full Office 2007 Enterprise Edition is installed and updated. The updates include Service Pack 1 for Office 2007. This software is completely licensed and activated for this laptop.
Step 8 – Install and Update AVG 7.5 Anti-Virus Professional Edition
· After fixing and repairing hundreds of computers, I have found AVG Pro to be the best possible anti-virus program out on the market. This software is installed, updated, licensed, and activated for the lifetime of the laptop.
· This laptop comes with a copy of Trend Micro PC-Cillin as well as a 15-month subscription. I did NOT install or activate this as I highly recommend AVG Pro instead.
Step 9 – Install and Update Adobe Photoshop CS3 & Acrobat Reader
· Adobe Photoshop CS3 is the absolute best and most powerful picture editing software out on the market. This is NOT the cheap version, Photoshop Elements. This is the full CS3 version. This is fully installed, updated, licensed, and activated for the lifetime of the laptop.
· Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed and updated to ensure full use of PDF files.
Step 10 – Install and Configure K-Lite Codec Pack
· Ever download a video or movie from the internet and realize your computer can’t view it? This codec pack enables the laptop to view 99% of all video formats possible. Everything is integrated into Windows and done automatically so there is nothing to mess with by the user. The 64-bit addition is also installed.
Step 11 – Install Custom Windows Sidebar Gadgets
· The standard gadgets do absolutely nothing helpful. They are replaced with 4 useful gadgets: an universal search engine, system monitor, an accurate battery monitor, and mini-control panel.
Step 12 – Install OCZ 4GB High-Performance RAM
· Instead of using the SLOW RAM that most OEM’s such as Dell uses, I have installed high-performance premium ram from OCZ. 2x 2GB SO-DIMM modules are installed for a total of 4GB. This memory was made for gamers but will run extremely fast and at low latencies for any applications.
· OCZ offers a 100% lifetime warranty for their RAM.
· I will supply the retail packaging for the OCZ memory as well as the original Dell memory to the winning bidder. This will ensure that there are no warranty problems in the future.
Step 13 – Complete System Diagnostics and Clean-Up
· All hardware is completely checked and diagnosed to ensure absolutely NO problems exist. The LCD monitor is tested repeatedly for any dead pixels. Every step is taken to ensure there are no manufacturer’s defects with the hardware.
· The laptop is physically cleaned to ensure you experience the feeling of opening and using a 100% brand new laptop.
