Default Gauging interest, import vs domestic matches

OK Guys, im throwing this out there as a topic before I put any effort into trying to try to plan any specifics.
As eveyone knows, esp the kills forum crew, there is a LOT of smack talking on IA. A lot of it stems from domestic vs import bashing.
So, Im looking to see who would seriously be interested in getting a track-day setup for an imports vs domestics race. Once again, I dont know what tracks have days available, so I will have to see. Im more biased to Silver Dollar, but it looks like it might be full-up through the summer on weekends already. It might have to be somewhere farther away though.
Anyway, in order to work, this will obviously take some commitment from people in advance. We would probably need to collect-up the track rental fee in advance.
It would probably be fair to have some types of classes, to keep the v8 mustangs from raping the N/A 4 cyl hondas (except vteckidd, of course LOL,) but I think that would be overly complicated. So, Im thinking just run-what-you-brung, call-out matches between whoever wants to race.
One class that I do think would be cool at least would be a 4-cyl import vs 4 cyl domestic race.
Anyway, post up your thoughts. I think this could be cool.

I'm game. I want 5 lengths... and the V8s must take off their steering wheels. I will let them get the break though... I want to make it fair.

it sounds like a good idea and pretty reasonable. I'm thinkin' that a lot of people would step up just to see which is better.

srt-4, mustang (4cylinder turbo), spirit, omni, turbo probe, turbo daytona umm...ok that's all I got I don't really consider the cobalts and saturns to be much competition or help for the domestic class.

This sounds like an awsome idea, I would def. be down. maybe for classes we could have some qualifying rounds (kinda like they do when you are bracket racing) and divide people into different e/t classes based on the first runs? ex. class A = 11sec and faster , class b = 11.0-11.99, class c = 12.0-12.99...etc. Or you could just have a domestic staging lane and a import lane and just line up to whatever you're next to (well maybe take an hour or 2 for grudge matches where you can line up against any car).

edit: I just read the part about possibly renting an 1/8 track :jerkit: I think it should be 1/4. If it ends up being a 1/8 I'll probably just watch.

Actually, I kinda expected it to be mainly srt4's for the domestics, but there are others. For example, a cobalt ss, saturn ion or focus svt would smoke most ricer hondas and the like. I guess it depends on how many really fast 4 cyls are there.
Maybe we could have a fastest 4 cyl car period... Let the evo/sti/srt4/honda/sr20 guys battle it out for king 4 cyl.

i know in my lightly modded Z24 is able to out run most stock/lightly modded/ricer 4cyclinder (and some 6 cyclinders) hondas. and some v6 stangs. colbalt ss is heavier than my car so that puts it behind my car. saturn ion(light) and the colbalt ss s/c(heavy) has the GM s/c so it's pretty fast. focus svt are weak.

Guys, thanks for all the input.

Im kinda surprised by the amount of response here, so Im afraid that if everyone who appears to be interested actually showed-up, its going to be hard to finish the event if we get too caught-up on sticking to classes.

Its looking more and more like it needs to be just run-what-you-brung. The point here isnt to start some trophy class...its to get out there and let out all of these pent-up keyboard-racing aggressions on your fellow car enthusiasts. So, if you have a mild or stock car, and you dont want to accept a call-out from a racecar, thats understandable. Same applies to the trailer-car vs not. It may just need to be up to you.
Then, we can determine the "fastest 4 cyl" or whatever "classes" we want using the results from the event.

I supposed to have a call setup with an organizer at Steele today, so hopefully Ill have more info on that tomorrow.

BTW, Ive seen some 10 second SVO's out there with the ford 2.3 turbo. Its an archaic motor, but Ive seen people go fast with them. There is also a nitroused SVT focus that I used to hear about at Moreland that ran pretty good. Point is, there are some fast non-SRT4 domestics 4 cylinders LOL

to keep away the redneck 6 sec mustangs, make it a rule that the car must be driven to the track, not trailored.

i am partial to cars that i see everyday on the street, than trailor cars... just an idea.

no that is a bad idea. while i do drive my car easily on the street i dont drive it much anymore on the street just to take care of it. I will NEVER EVER drive my car to the track, thats asking for trouble. We shear axles and shit on 200whp cars and it wouldnt seem like it would happen. I have 630whp and ill have more when my new car is done and i get my engine back together...no sir im not driving that shit to an event, you must be out of your mind.

the whole point of having a car is for it to get you from point A to point B. if it can't do that, then why even have a car? track racing is fun but i see way too many people complaining about their cars not being able to run. if your car can't make it to the track, how is it supposed to run on the track?

Please use periods. But Spoolin does have a point. Having a 600+ horsepower car does cause serious problems when traveling long distances. What if something goes wrong? Not only that...think about what his gas mileage is like.

Someone said something about mildly modded 4 bangers versus havily modded ones. Honeslty, if your doing this for the title of fastest 4 cylinder then it should be run what you brung, no matter the mods. If you break it down too much then it looses the point of being the fastest 4 cylinder.

    Just my

Agreed. While I daily drive my car, there's much more of a risk of something breaking on 600+ whp cars than your regular stock Sentra Spec V and you're defintely not going to help us tow it back, so trailering is the only option.

It's one thing to break in metro Atlanta or 20 miles from home. It's another story to break down in another state or several hours away.

I know my friend would love to do this, if you dont mind racing a pick-up. What else would be in the v-6 class besides the accord and tiburan? I would race my POS but you would need a calender for my ET

    Agreed, this seems fair.

No problems, ill be racing my pickup too, probably, if we can make this work-out. Its a v6.

Im thinking we dont want to get too complicated with classes, but its up to the general concensus. I agree we want it to be fun for everyone, so we need to have some balance. Im thinking in reality, this will just turn into a free-for-all grudge match, which is certainly cool also. Import vs imports are fine too, but in the interest of the theme, we should schedule those after the import vs domestics.

Good feedback guys, keep the suggestions coming. Its cool to see people are on-board with it.

If youve got other track suggestions, shoot me a PM. It seems a lot of 1/4 mile tracks are pretty booked on weekends already. We might have better chance at an 1/8th mile track, and it would be cheaper. The problem is that it will put a lot of turbo cars at a disadvantage against the domestics.

What do you all think about 1/8th mile?

I sent an email to the track director at Steele to ask for specifics on these types of events there. Ive never been to that track, so it would be new for me.

I havent seen too many of the normally-vocal domestics responding though, hopefully they didnt all get banned or something haha

I am willing to participate. Be nice if it was after july cause I am still waiting for my rods to come in. Oh, mine is not a trailer queen, it is street driven but will be trailered to the track just in case something breaks. Just dont want to pay a huge tow bill.
