Haaaaaaaappy Birthday Danny!!! (even though he probably won't see this)
:bigdance::bigdance::bigdance:
Where has andrewkd been?
I didn't realize how long I've been in the garage until I realized just how high I am right now.
Everything tastes like paint.
haha.. just got home..
Springs. B&G's were on sale like $90 off and wagon specific springs are harder to get so I jumped on it. I've got a TWM shift knob (the one I bought from bobby) but needed a subaru adapter (the inside of the knob screws out so you can swap it from car to car if you buy the correct inserts), and a piece to hold the shift boot in place with an aftermarket knob.
My girlfriend bought me a Greddy turbo timer and the vehicle specific harness. I ordered a set of NGK iridium plugs (one step colder of course :D ) and a K&N drop in filter (aftermarket intakes typically require some tuning with these cars and don't make much power if any. Stock intake system w/K&N drop in is good for 325hp- no where near that. yet.)
I already have a DynoTune electronic boost gauge (sooo much better than an anologe imo) and turbosmart manual boost controller leftover from my father's Speed 6.
So a tune up and oil change this weekend and everything else will follow shortly.
Andy and Rob are right, the non-STI's are 5x100 while the STI's are the more popular 5x114.3 so Teng's wheel won't work.
Since you guys showered me with compliments (thanX BTW, I really appreciate it ;) ) here's a few more pics!!

Been out of town.......picking up my 53

My lucky streak continues, I logged another 300+ miles with no license plates on the truck and U-Haul was kind enough to give me a trailer with no tags....
I feel as if you are one lucky Bastard!! If that was me I'd be locked up right now.
Unless you plan on flogging the car everywhere you go, a timer really isn't needed. I had one on my SW20 years ago and found it more of an annoyance then anything. I was attending a driving school one day and had got out of the car and locked it as usual to later realize that I left the car on with the keys in it. This was 7:15am and the security guy for the track that would be able to assist me didn't show up until 8. :(
Maybe it's different in the Subie scene but why did you already go one step colder on the plugs since the car is essentially stock? I would have recommended going with a copper plug opposed to an iridium. You may a little more power and are cheaper. The only con to it is, you'd want to change them out ever 2-3 oil changes.
I know the earlier model WRX/STi's had a 5x100 configuration but later switched to a 5x114, IIRC. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Oh and congrats on the new toy. Your ass better be at the meet Friday night so we can all see it. :goodjob:
That wouldn't be a bad trade. I like DC5's when their done right. :)
i'd like one.
Not selling the EM1 anymore?
i have a job, so i dont need the money... and cant find anything i'd rather have for the same price range.
The timer is for piece of mind. My father's had two turbo cars over the years and destroyed 4 turbos for various reasons. So anything to not have that happen. lol
The thing with the plugs- They're supposedly a bitch and a half to change, not something I want to do every few of months (when i go to school i drive close to 250 miles those days). So iridium is my choice.
The one step colder- they say for every 50-100 hp over stock one step colder is recommended. Between the catless up pipe and catless TBE, drop in filter there's only 25hp max (quoting from a couple different forums), plus turning up the boost.
Stock is like 12.5 (although I've read in other places its 13.5 so I'm not sure which is correct) and you can run 18psi on the stock turbo with a tune. Just the boost controller itself no more than 17psi. I'm gonna attempt to run15.5-16psi. I'd run more but I have to watch the boost fluctuations from gear to gear (could be 16psi in 2nd & 3rd gears but 17+psi in 4th or 5th gear).
The motor's typically start to run on the lean side without a tune which translates into hotter combustion chamber temps, so I'm hoping the colder plugs will aid in keeping detonation at bay.
Of coures the best option would be get a cobb accessport and call it good, but I'm poor. lol
Andy if you did trade for that Type S what year is it? 02-04 or 05-06. Deff a good trade up though.
I gotcha. Holy crap do you drive a lot. Where do you go to school? BFE??
That's usually the rule of thumb for the spark plugs. If you don't mind me asking, how many miles are on the motor? I'm assuming it's the original turbo? For the money, you could get a VF39 for cheap and make a little extra power; ~300hp. Depending on the condition of the stock turbo, I'd be hesitant to increase the boost at this point, that's just my opinion though. Oh and I'd recommend a MBC over an EBC any day of the week, preferably a Hallman. Look on eGay, there is a couple vendors selling them for $70 shipped.
I would definitely recommend a tune and getting an 02 WB to keep a check on everything. I'm currently looking into a Zietronix unit which has really good reviews. It's always better to be safe then sorry.
I go to warner robins (middle ga tech).
I already have a mbc left from my father's speed 6. Its a turbosmart and worked well in his car- held boost the way it was supposed to.
The down pipe I have is turbo specific so swapping turbos requires injectors, fuel pump, turbo and a new downpipe. Short on money and wanting to get a few other things done hinder this at the moment. lol
The motor has 130k miles on it and they were all pretty easy miles with regular maint performed at the dealership so it should be a solid motor and turbo. Me, on the otherhand, won't be so nice to it (driving wise. maint will be well managed).
My friend/ex boss has an expensive OBD scan tool that reads all kinds of engine parameters and I thing A/F ratio is one of them so i will likely borrow it for a an hour or so and see what's up after the minor boost increase.
I gotta few questions for you. I may PM you later or just talk to you on friday.
i know. lol I think about you everyday when I get on what is it I-475?
Dustin hungry, Dustin want wingies!!!! I love wingies!!!!
