Default Ps3 price cut to $299 Also Ps3 Slim announced 120gb $299 as well

    http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/18/s...s-slimmer-ps3/

the only question is, why buy an 80gb right now for 299 when you can wait a few weeks and get the new slim version with 120gb hd for the same price!!

Hardly a surprise, but Sony got on stage today at GamesCom and confirmed what we've all known deep down in our hearts: the new, slimmer PS3 is really real. It'll be out in the first week of September, and will retail for $300 (or 300 Euro, or 29,980 Yen). It's smaller and lighter, has a 120GB HDD, and packs "all the same features" of the regular PS3 while consuming 34 percent less power and taking up 32 percent less space. Existing PS3 SKUs have their prices dropped a hundie apiece tomorrow in anticipation, so be sure to grab a space heater while you've still got a shot -- though we're not sure why you'd pay $300 for an 80GB PS3 when you can wait a couple weeks and get 120GB in a cuter package. A couple pics of the unveil are after the break.

Update: We've got press shots! Check 'em all in the gallery below, and be sure to pore over that to-scale comparo pic up top. There's one from above as well, which reveals that the new model is actual "deeper" than the PS3 fat.

$300 =/= 300 Euro. Hopefully it is a mistake in the article, and won't really be ~$425 instead of $300.

The fat one is still 'prettier', with its glossy black and silver case and fancy "playstation 3" font.

But oh boy this slim one does not look bad at all. It will prob. be preferred for Home Theater enthusiasts, who want to integrate it into their system, i.e. it will match other components on an a/v rack and will operate quieter (when watching movies), which are big plusses.

Maybe I'll replace the one in my media room with one of those... hmmmm

You mean the Spider-man font, don't you? That is where the playstation folks got it from, to my knowledge

Slim one is nice, but is it worth selling my big one for a slim one? Hmmm

Also no biometric touch buttons or however they call it, on the slim...

CNET has a review on it already....bottomline: a nice and more competitive price, and still at the top of their best blu-ray players...

The 80gig right now is 299, when the Slim comes out it will be 120gig and will also be 299 so its not worth picking up an 80 atm. Unless you really just want to lol.

it's not the HD space you wanna look at.
since if you want a 1TB hd all you have to do is pick up a 2.5" and pop it in.
it's more or less what appeals to you feature wise.
personally i prefer to be able to play ps/ps2 games on 1 system.
i also like the fact that i can boot linux on it if i want.

that and the slim just looks ugly >.<

    good point

I just know a good amount of people will see 120gig for the same price and go for it. For what most people are wanting Ps3 game system + Blueray player the slim is a good choice.

    definitely.
the fact that it's a blu-ray player and comes with wireless so you can surf the net is pretty neat. and at $300 it's a good choice regardless, seeing as how streaming's getting pretty popular as well as most blu ray players going for $300+ starting.
