Default Has anyone tried the super-cheap 8GB SD cards?

Not sure if this topic should go elsewhere. Anyhow, fleabay seems to be flooded with cheap 8GB SD cards for 10-15 bucks or even less. The feedback left for these Hong Kong and Chinese vendors seems to be promising with hardly any negative comments... if these cards can perform the basic task of holding data and have a decent transfer speed, I guess I'm gonna buy 3 or 4 of these. I could possibly store tons of Garmin maps on each card and plug them into each of my GPSs, effectively making them a real global GPS, rather than my current setup of juggling around with a bunch of cards everytime my parents and I take a trip across the pond. Heck, I could even have a dedicated storage medium for porn and illicit stuff and hide it away from the prying eyes of my gf.

8GB means they are SDHC cards, which should ensure compatibility with future products that utilize SD technology.

Umm.. that really wasn't the point of my post. In case the OP was a bit confuzzling, I was asking for opinions on the nameless (or unbranded) 8GB cards that are invading our shores.
Oh, and you might want to look into getting a high speed 60x SD for your camera. You're definitely underutilizing the camera's potential with a standard SD.

I haven't seen these, but I jumped on a deal that newegg has for 4 2gig cards for $30+$5 shipping. I love 'em, but now I wish I shopped around. Are you sure there is no outrageous shipping charge on these?

I was thinking about a similar kind of deal on newegg but my friend alerted me these. $15 shipped or thereabouts is what they cost.. shipping is absolutely free btw.
Here is one that's about to end.. $15 bucks and it's all yours:

What kind of transfer rate are those rated at?

The only danger, short of performance, that I see is two fold: 1. You're dealing with people overseas over the internet. Enough said. 2. I've read several times where there are TONS of knock off and counterfit pieces that aren't very good.

I'd be leary of it just for those two reasons. On a similar note, I bought a mack daddy 4G card the other day at Best Buy and they honored their internet price at the store. It's got a 266X transfer rate and seems to work very well, although I've only shot once with it.

    Good luck.

There's only one way to find out. I'm jumping headlong into the bidding war.

Umm.. 1. I've dealt with countless people from Europe and Asia in the past without much hassles. 2. These guys aren't advertising their SD cards as "Sandisk" or "Kingston". In fact, this is just a generic unbranded SD card.

266X on an SD card? Are you sure? What kind of real world transfer rates do you get?

Thanks for the advice though. That said, $15 bucks seems reasonable for an experiment with high capacity SD cards. I'm going to set my max budget at that and not a penny more.

It's $15 or so. If it doesn't work, so what. You are only out $15. ****, you spend that much in gas in 1 day, almost.

    I'm not.. corporate expenses, anyone?

Jk.. as mentioned in my previous post, $15 is awfully cheap. I'll see if I can get one of those and post a review.

The 266X is for a CF card, not SD.

It seems you have your mind made up, so go for it.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Haha.. I knew it was the CF card but wasn't a 100% sure. Anyhow, I did buy (win) one earlier today, although it did cost a couple of dollars more than my original budget. Most stuff from east Asia usually takes about 7-8 business days, so it's just a matter of waiting it out.

Let us know how it works out for you. I'd be curious to see.

If you ever spot CF cards cheap like that......holla!!
