Default Call of Duty 4 Chernobyl - so did they actually send people to take pix?

i was playin Cod4 the other day (good game). There is a Chernobyl level where you run around in camoflage the whole time. It looks real...too real.

After watchin some youtubes on the site, i got to thinking did the cod4 team actually send people into a still very radioactive area to take pics for the game?

i read the city of Pripyat where most of the level takes place is the area worst hit and i know its still got gamma rays going through it.

    look and see....

    Pics from site

this is a real shot but is scary close to the game!

some parts of chernobyl are ok to go in, not live or stay for a very long time. Scientist are over there doing studies on the effects of the ground/insects

most of the dangerous places are blocked off by the russian government, so i highly doubt they went into the places with large amounts of radiation

    edit: first link doesn't work

I'm sure with the amount of resources Infinity Ward has that they didn't need to send people down there to get pics of the layout. I'm sure if nothing else they could get building and town layouts along with pics from the government, internet, etc.

There is a really cool write up I stumbled across awhile ago about someone who took a motorcycle trip through Chernobyl. It takes a little while to get through, but I found it to be pretty interesting. Some cool pics too.

So yes, I imagine with the right resources they could have seen how the town looks.

some insane pix... i just couldnt imagine visiting that place.

It said in their some expect the next time Chernobyl could be inhabited is between 300-900 years... so sad. And the story about the liquid dators is even worse. I think i read that of the tens of thousands sent to try and fix the problem only 4 survived to today!

The zone of alienation is actually very well documented photographically, tourists can take day trips there. Inifinity Ward wouldn't have to send anyone. STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl has a perfectly modeled Pripyat/Chernobyl NPP. The whole game captures the atmosphere very well.

x2 for STALKER. The thing with that game was it was in development for a long ass time. Still was amazing with their own ecosystems in the game.

An excellent game indeed, I can't honestly say anything really equals it for me.

Like you said though, it was in dev hell and suffered as such. An amazingly solid foundation is present but its missing the trappings of a true masterpiece. The prequel that will be released shortly will hopefully give the game the polish it deserves.

It's called STALKER: Clear Sky. Apparently it takes place a year before the events of STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl

Lol at the ruskies sharing city layout plans with a gaming company that profits hugely in the united states.
