I wasn't trying to start hip-hop WWIII. Ok, maybe a little

I like the mix. It "mixes" up the songs that you may have liked the 1st or 2nd time you heard it or whatever until it got played out. I like all kinds of music. From Fleetwood Mac and Steve Miller Band, to Tool and Pantera, to 2Pac and J5.

Too true. Even if you didn't like what one artists had to offer, you could check out another to get a completely different perspective, sound, and point of view. Of course there were copy cat artists back in the day as well but, that is the nature of the music industry. As far as diversity goes in "rap" music today, it simply isn't there. What's even more troubling to me is, acts like Soulja Boy (and so many more "southern artists" I hear) don't even attempt to be lyrically satisfying. If you aren't going to have anything to say other than what's been said over and over again, at least attempt to do it in a way that is somewhat fitting of an MC. Apparently even that is too much to ask these days.

i see your point quickdodge but i'm not retarded. i know most of the content in southern raps is what a lot ppl consider to be garbage. i'm into the old school, underground, freestyles, mixtapes, etc and i understand the different styles between the two. i respect and enjoy both types. but whether you like to believe it or not, mainstream music is still music. and right now the south is all over it. that's all i'm saying. i'm not knockin on either of the two. both are good. i prefer the southern ****. i just don't think it's cool how ppl say the south is all garbage

You don't know shiit man. You're just another idiot that thinks just because you're black you automatically know all about rap. And because I'm white, I don't know shiit. Well you know I was out buying Sparky D, Busy Bee, Grandmaster Caz and all those folks when their shiit was brand new, man. I've been listening to rap since it's inception. I know what I'm talking about. I know where it's at, where it's been and see where it's heading. The only reason you're in this thread trashing someone like me is because you're a fanboy of htis Soulja Boy crap and you don't like that I'm knocking it. You're "propping" Joesph because he;s the only one halfway defending this atrocity of rap. Get yourself some form of knowledge before you come to the board, man. Make yourself look stupid. Later, QD.

I never said it wasn't. Music is music no matter what style it is. I'm referring to lyrical content and quality.

The South, as well as the East, Midwest and the West is all over nothing. No one is all over anything right now. Basically, rap is in a lull at this moment. Just because an artist or two comes out with a track doesn't meant that the whole region is on it.

As far as the South rap being garbage. It started out NOT garbage and then went strictly garbage (thanks Lil Jon and Ying Yang). Now it's just a mixture of both crap and rap. Later, QD.

just because soulja boy sells records and has a fan base does that make him a flop? Theres plenty of artists i dont like but i know they arent a flop. I dont like krs one at all.. but i know hes a good lyricists. I just have never felt him at all. Everyone always brings up old rappers, and what they used to do. but that formula for rap is over and done.

Andre 3000, said it best, he pretty much described the music from different times and locations based on the environment, and just described how and why they sound like they do.

i dont care what u all say about soulja boy he is great at what he does. And my whole problem with people and their opinions now about rap is, alot of them dont listen to anything new, and they go off what the radio plays.

True. I never said he was a flop. Just that he is furthering the demise of rap. I can't stand anything from 50 Cent, but he isn't a flop.

You're exactly right. And you see where that got rap today? The formula is done and rap now basically has taken on a new direction. More towards suckville.

I won't argue with that. Now what he does may be a debate amongst us.

I hear what you are saying, but I dont listen to rap to dance, I want to hear lyrics. If I grew up in this era, I would probaly defend soulja boy, but I have heard way better artists in my time, a few of them are unsigned, so I cannot not give him props for being a real rapper, I give him all respect because he is doing something positive for himself and not "bussin caps or slingin packs" or doing stupid stuff like lil wayne

if u dont listen to rap than u should already know what soulja boy is all about. Soulja boy said he isnt a good rapper, but he will get better.... when i heard him say that i couldnt hate the kid for what he does. whats ur fav artists currently?

No one is saying that there isn't any good new shiit out there, Scortman. It's just too few and far between. Not enough to keep it alive. Just about EVERY track back in the day was a smash (in the hip hop community). I think people are getting tired of all the negativity surrounding rap and the lack of quality in rap and they are ebbing away looking for different alternatives. I don't listen to the radio. At all. Except satellite. And you do hear unsigned, non-mainstream shiit there and I listen to shiit that people put out there that is new to get a feel. Later, QD.

Currently to tell you the truth I only listen to Kanye, some G-Unit. Jay-Z, but my I-pod is loaded with Tupac, Nas, Black Moon, Cocca Bros AKA Smif & Wesson, cats like that, I never said I dont listen to rap. I dont listen to rap to dance around like how they do in these videos

i kinda lost track of what the big issue in this thread was. i just made a statement about how i enjoy all the various forms of rap and don't consider it to be trash and that i couldn't stand it when ppl did say how bad it was, especially southern stuff. and then you kinda started some ****. that's all
