90% of mainstream rap is garbage. A few good songs mixed in, but mostly not worth wating you life listening to it.

Underground rap is always the best you are going to find. I only really know the chichago underground cause thats where I grew up. I remember listening to Twista when he was still Tung Twista, Crucial Conflict before "Hay", DA Smart, B-Low 0, Snipaz, Southside Mobbin.

Other older, and not as well known NORTHERN rappers that stayed pretty much in the underground. Dayton Family from Detroit is the one that comes to min at 3am, but there are others.

So true. I was a huge fan of Eric B and Co. Rakim was a badass emcee, but, like JM said, a few years at the top does a G.O.A.T. not make. To me, he's on the line of Kool G Rap and Kane both. Later, QD.
