    Default PS2 Tech Issues

I've had my ps2 for a while now. ANd all of a sudden it stops reading disc. Every once in a while it will read something then it won't again. I am thinking it is the dust buildup inside thats affected the laser form reading the disc. Any advice?

Try taking it apart, and using rubbing alcohol on the lens but not a lot use like a q-tip or something like that and gently clean it.

You dont have to take it apart to clean the lens, Just go to Walmart and buy the CD cleaner kit they have, You put the stuff on a CD they include and that will clean it

When mine used do that I would flip it from horizontal to vertical or vice versa(sp). Then it'd work again.

if you take it apart it will void the warranty it was with sony... since there is a sticker on the back of it you have to remove to open the case and when you do it'll say void on your ps2... I know this cause I have done it w/ a ps2 my lil brother spill coke on when he and his friends were drunk.... but more than likely there is a build up of dust and crap on more than the lens.... also on circuit boards and around the fan... just a lil FYI

That would be the infamous disc reader recall. Alot of ps2's have that problem (7 of them at the shop right now). If you bought it new you can send it back and just pay shipping. But you won't get it back for a while. You can replace the reader for around 50-75 dollars, or you can buy a new one.
