Default Just bought a computer from Dell

We got a deal at work that we get 12% off anything we buy from dell. So I had to throw down and get a new computer. Time to get rid of the p4. So I built me a low end XPS system with the highest parts that you could get. (high end xps starts at 1900... i got the one that starts at 900 :P) But anyways...
I will be getting it on the 26th. As I was building it I was thinking that the price wasn't so bad. But after I finished it, I was seriously considering canceling it. But I guess I'll just live with it. Help build credit anyways. I was wondering if Vista is stable yet. I watched several video's of people trying to run applications and the computer will give errors and crash. But I think that was with the beta. I know any application such as this will take time to perfect, but.. is it any better?

I also have a ATI x1600pro 512 going in it when I get it. And I have another 500gb sata hd. I was just wondering what I should expect. Is it going to be fast? I have a P4 3.0ghz right now that's like 3 years old. (I paid more for it than this new comp) And I'm just hoping to be able to run games in higher res. with no chop. Right now I can run HL2 and source at the highest settings and it only gets choppy when a lot of shit is going on.
    Here's the build list.

It took the 12% off after that. I had to put in the promotional code before I charged it. It's really around $1200. I need the credit anyways.

I hope you're not intending to replace the nvidia geforce 7900gs video card with the ati x1600 pro.

Holy shit, I'm glad I didn't replace it with that card now. I was going to do it considering that I just bought this 512mb x1600pro last month for my computer now... thought that the 512mb x1600pro > 7900gs.. Guess I was way off. Thank you guys for clearing that up. So do you think that this computer is going to be fast? As in... not many games that I can't run?

Jesus christ this damn 7900 kills the 1600 :P

Sounds like a good system, I've just never been a fan of Dell.

    But building credit is nice.

Not to be mean or anything, but that is a pretty weak computer for the money. You can build an entire computer with better specs than that for much cheaper.

since it was that much for a desktop, you should have just invested into a hp laptop.

Good deal for an ok dell. But seems a little expensive for a custom build. 1500$ custom built one net you alot higher end system i do belive.

But dude ur gettin a Dell!!! Yeahhh for POS desktops that rattle and vibrate. Let me know how the XPS case is, cause every dell i have seen shakes, rattles and rolls.

But again seems like you go a decent deal for a dell, and i think with those specs you will be able to run all games, just not all of them on ultra high

Yeah, I should have went to frys.
Well the only reason I even did it was because I got 12% off. We get discounts through tons of companys because we cut deals with them for carpet/tile. Right after I finished and paid for it.. I started thinking that I would have been better off going to fry's and building my own. Could have even gotten a better looking case too... for a lot less.

sorry man that isnt a good deal. those specs self built is well under a 1000.

only ting your getting that we wouldnt is customer support.

If you can still cancel it lemme know i'll look around i think i knew of a coupon that gave you more of a discount than the 12%. will look for it while im at class tomorrow

I can't cancel it. It's going to be here Tuesday. I know it isnt really a good deal but, A good bit of credit will come from this. I'll just live with it and whenever I pay it off I'll start upgrading it. Anyone here run Vista yet? I've heard it's buggy.

Yeah, build a computer from parts @ Frys or Microcenter next time. You can build a high end PC for less than $500.
