Default Project **UNNAMED** - Brakes poll

Currently, project **unnamed** has just the DX brakes. 9.5" in the front, drums in the rear.

Currently, I have a set of DA front brakes (10.3") and DA rear discs/TA's. I've also got the 15/16" master cylinder and accompanying booster.

Food for thought: This particular civic gonna stay somewhat-stock, and not be used TOO much for racing and competitive driving. The current DD will be used for that. I want this new project to have some sporty-feel...but we'll see how she ends up... This car will doubtfully have a b-series motor, though...which means I would/wouldn't have to adapt hubs/axles accordingly

Option A: Go with just DA rears.
Good: Having JUST DA rears allows me to save some weight in the front by sticking with the smaller front brakes. I've run this setup before, and it didn't seem to give me a hard time at all. I'll still have the necessary "parking" power so my car doesn't roll away, and will have plenty of braking power with daily driving without the overkill and added weight. Plus, I can sell off the front DA's I have.
Bad: I'll have to get a 35/40prop valve, and rear hoses.

Option B: Go with FULL DA brakes.
Good: I'll have the awesome stopping power of oversized front brakes and the power of rear discs. I have almost all the components to do it. Not to mention the look of a 10.3" rotor looking better behind a 15" wheel...
Bad: I'll have to buy a 4040 prop valve, and rear hoses. I'll also have unnecessary weight in the front end.

if its not seeing "track" or "heavy street" use then i'd say stick with option A if this car will ever become a... runner... then you might as well save the time and go with option b... but overall for you're goals i'd say option A is more suited for your purposes

we talked about this already ben go the full kahoona you have the part laying around anyway and we both know its gonna get a b series so just swap them out who cares about the weight since the main object of this car is comfort and some get up and go when you need it but you know i will get those rears from you if you dont use them i hate my drums with a passion such a eye sore

Looks like you have to buy hoses and a prop valve regardless, so the only downside to DA front brakes is the manliness with which you'll stop.

    I've got both 3540 and 4040 valves.
Lines aren't expensive and can be found relatively easy.
    And you've got everything else.

If you aren't going to abuse it, then I'd go DA rear only.

    My offer:
I'll give you my 3540 valve.
I'll buy your DA fronts($100 sound good?)
And I'll get you the hoses for your rear swap.

In all its around a $150 value.
Plus, we'll finish my hatch and be able to do your swap.

Option C of leave it stock...is NOT an option. I HATE the look of rear drums (sorry to those that have them...)

That...and once you've driven an EF with rear discs...you'll NEVER wanna go back...

Chris...I'm VERY highly considering your offer...

No rush here, take your time.

If we have a deal, the next time I'll have time to actually swap the brakes is after the EF meet. The week of Nov 19th-23rd. Fall Break FTW!

Rear's getting done one way or the other...
I don't have to save TOO much pocket change...although I'm not looking to dump money into this one, either. none the less, I can work the brakes either way i go. However, I disagree on your "not making a difference" hypothesis. Granted, I probably drive more aggressive than you on a day-to-day basis...I noticed the difference...

Disc brakes don't suck. Drum brakes do though.
