Default DIY>> FREE fender rolling for dummies!!! step-by-step guide o so many steps

ok so i live up in the mountains of North Georgia and finding someone local who rolls fenders is pretty much outa the question. All other places ive found who roll fenders are like 2 hours away and want anywhere from $30-55 per fender.

now my last rsx i tried to do the baseball bat method but that just chipped the shit outa my paint and didnt work very well... but this way worked wonderful for me with NO paint chipping whatsoever. just takes a little time and work.

    so.

question is do you need your fenders rolled? well in my case im running some 18x9.5" rims with 235/35 tires so yes rolling my fender is a must.

do your wheels look like this?

    TOOLS YOU NEED:
    Rubber mallet
    hair dryer
    time and patience

STEP ONE: Jack your car up

STEP TWO: Take your wheel off

STEP THREE: Take your girlfriend's or fiancée's hair dryer, turn it on high power with high heat. Move back in forth on the fender. Make sure to go inside and outside the fender. The purpose of this is to warm the paint up so when you bang on it with your mallet the paint doesn't chip or crack. do this for about 30-45 seconds. Make sure you move the whole time so you don't melt off the paint.

STEP FOUR: Now get your trusty rubber mallet and start banging.. you gotta tilt it and bang the fender with the corner of the face of the mallet. Now when your doing this start on the very back end of the fender and work in like 4-5 inch segments. As your banging move back and forth this helps it bend better.

repeat steps THREE and FOUR until desired results are reached.. i personally did it until i almost pancaked the fender...

*NOTE* (do not! use a regular nail hammer you will jack your shit up!... also i tried using a smaller hammer that had the hard plastic on one side and soft plastic on the other but it was to small and light to do the job. the big rubber mallet worked best for me.)

bam free and just as good as those stupid rollers

    Nice write up -

only thing you forgot to mention is that "those stupid rollers" do a lot more than just roll the edge up. They can also pull or flare the sheetmetal as required to properly fit extreme wheels.

I dont get the hate in this thread other than the fact he inst using jackstands, dont like the price of those wheels dont buy them, hes only going to get lowballed anyways might as well set the price higher

for those looking to flare the fenders a lil more

the bat method is extreme, using a smaller diameter pipe with a heat gun or blow dryer works wonder for those needing to flare the fender out a lil more to fit wider tires, I got 265s

Great write-up and job on the fender roll. In some cases where the roller will not fit, you have to use a mallet atleast to start it off. Here is one that we did to showcase the actual roller and the DIY photos look just as good.
