    Default WHEEL: Repaint,and polishing lips

well i traded my old stock ep3 wheels for this set of wheels

guy was like. these are so ugly why would you want them . i said i was intending to restore them cause i could see the potential in them. well it all paid off and i am going to attempt to tell yall how i did it.

    first you need some supplies
    --------------------------
    i used

    wet/dry sandpaper 120,340,1000 grit
    primer spray paint
    clear coat spray paint
    mettalic spray paint
    aircraft paint remover
    waterhose
    tape
    plastic scraper
    toothbrush
    cheap paint brush
a cool spray paint grip thingy
chemical resistant gloves if your dumb and get paint remover all over the place.
    - i didnt really use gloves at all so it can be done just be carefull

total cost in supplies purchased from autozone and wallmart
    = about 40$

first use the aircraft paint remover to strip the paint. here you pour the paint remover into a cup or something and then use your paint brush to basiclly paint on the paint remover onto the wheel. you will see it immediatly begin to eat away the paint. keep going though. completly saturate the wheel in this stuff and then some. be very generous, i didnt even use my whole can going over the 4 wheels. After covering the wheel in remover let it sit for like 10 minutes. come back to the wheel with your plastic scraper and scrap off all the paint. do this 2-3 times of covering the wheel in remover and then scraping the paint of after 10 minutes as neccessary.

next we stat on polishing the lip. start with your low grade sandpaper and start scraping. make sure its smooth all around. then repeat this step usning a higher grade sandpaper. then do it a 3rd time with at least a 1000 grade wet/dry sandpaper to polish out the small nicks.

(this set of wheels had 1 polished lip and the other 3 didnt so i had to redo the one with the polished lip so they all match just fyi )

next make sure your surface of the wheel is completley sanded and smooth as to make your wheel nice and pretty

now we are done prepping so clean the wheel off and start taping.

spray a good 2-3 coats of primer to make sure and cover everything up.

(i messed up on this wheel , after i took this pic i resanded it and resprayed)

now spray with the paint and do like 3-4 light coats and on the final coat go a little heavier then normal to get a nice finish

now i took all the tape off . polished the lip with some chrome alluminum polish. now you wanna just use some note cards or index cards whatever they are called and line those along the rims edge because you will spray a clear coat over the entire wheel including the polished lip. make sure you do like 5-6 very light coats to avoid fogging up the clear coat. idk why but sometimes when i spray it to thick when the clear coat dries it looks cloudy.

    and your finished!

    AFTER:

let me know if yall having anything to add and ill edit it into this thread.

thanks for reading and good luck!

btw this took me by myself about 3 days of work and 25 hours
it is pretty tough to do all of this at once but as you can see its worth it so just keep telling yourself that and youll get there.

Did you seriously just paint those without polishing the lip first?

well i polished the lip out as much as i could with my hand then painted... all i did after i painted the wheel was buff it a little with some turtle chrome polish by hand. i wasnt going for a mirror finish this time around seeing it was my first time doing this.

    but i appreciate your concern!

So you "polished" with 1000 grit sandpaper and that's it?

Why did you prime aluminum? You realize aluminum isn't going to rust right? And I know that's not an aluminum oxide primer anyways...lulz.

Nice one man. B4 I thought people just sand it, primer, and paint. There's going to be a new look on my ghetto ride.
