Not trying to shit on your thread, but 75 celcius means something is seriously wrong with your watercooling setup. Im surprised the processor hasnt fried. With my build on a full load its probably 42-43 Celcius tops. Also watercooled.

Def not worth it IMO. I could build a better comp for probably around half of what you're asking for. Considering all the processing power and such a small cache on your main HD. Its like throwing information in a funnel. No matter how fast you can process it you're limited by the HD.

EDIT: HOLY FUCK. I just noticed the chip. You overclocked it from 2.66 to 4.6 each core? Is that even possible?

I didn't notice that. I thought 72.4c was the highest you could go and remain stable.

I dont know much about the resistance of i7's but im sure it shouldnt be hitting 75-80 celcius. LoL, thats like 170 F. You could bake a pizza on the surface of that chip

Haha no fair! I'm on stock cooler, though. I'm saving for W/C. What cooler do you have?

first processor I had I ran all the way to 113 C on all 4 cores and it is still running great. These new processors will take the abuse and still run great.

As far as running at 70 being hot please go look at overclocks for the i7. The temps on these things raise EXTREMELY FAST. Literally one vcore bump in the bios will raise temps as much at 20 degrees Celsius. 70 degrees is EXTREMELY cool for these numbers.

Matter of fact it is almost 25 degrees cooler than my first setup at the same speed because it is on water.

Also I dont mean to be a dick but how can you build a better system for half? Please post up specs and prices. I can guarantee you cannot

My deepest apologies then. I dont know to much about the i7's as im still on the C2D and its treating me fine. I assumed that since the C2D's are in the danger zone at 50 that you're really killing your processor. I did mention that I dont know the amount of abuse it can take tho.

As for building it for half, ok maybe not possible. But for less definately possible. There are places in your build that I feel would have been better with different parts. But maybe cause im a Western Digital/Seagate fan. Also overlooked that your ram was DDR3, which is pricey as fuck.

GLWS tho. I may have to look into upgrading to i7 if im able to OC that much. Time for a new beast.

Again, sorry for crapping in your thread.

Thats cool. Yeah I do know that some parts are so-so, thats why the video cards getting pulled soon and switching it to two 5850's. Also the hard drive is literally there JUST FOR STORAGE now. I am running the 80GB Intel X-25M ssd for the OS, a 30GB Vertex for most of my programs, and my 30GB Core for other things. I also have a few 64GB cores, Vertex's and some ONY and Kingstons I am thinking about putting in, but they are probably going to be placed in pairs in my laptop.

Updates will need to happen soon as some parts have changed already.

I'm still wondering what's the chances of "blowing a cooling line" and having water all over everything?

The chances are slim as long as you get good quality parts, and take your time to do it right.

Why didn't you go with phase change for the cooling? I think that would have been the ultimate setup considering you have the ssd drives and all. As for overclocking, you cant beat it. Nice setup either way and GLWS!

phase setups are expensive and generally companies will not ship them due to the fragile-ness of the items...

New setup is in the making right now.

    i7-980x
    3-GTX480's
    12GB DDR3 2000mhz RAM
    800D Case
    1200watt enermax PSU
    2 Barracuda XT 2TB drive RAID 0
    4 Intel X25 40GB SSD drives RAID 0
Waiting on a new board to come out to finish everything

Nice build, however, you could probably fry an omelete on those 3 video cards. I like keeping my video card and electric skillet separate

yeah, but when im putting out 60,000+ PPD in F@H it does not matter....LOL

Now I can do what I have been doing in 3 days in a single day. Will end up saving me more money than anything, just in electricity.
