    lol nice post...

i will add this always read the judging sheet at the event or before the event and 3 things all can improve on

    1) cleanliness, don't be surprised to see a judge wipe a finger around undercarriage... (ask Brett for pointers, he has the cleanest non trailored car i've have ever seen)

    2) unique, do small touches others don't have, and don't added them all at once, spread out your mods, b/c judges who judge your car will notice alot of times the minor changes changes (this time i noticed yamil from aap added a chrome front spliter to the front bumper since the last event) creativity is the key to beating out the competition

    3) displays, not enough people capitalize on this... its free points! take off a wheel show off those upgraded brakes, have pics available, poster of car build, 3 wheel doggy style your air ride, etc...

    thats it...

i will say it would suck to have a show car now a days... competition is really tight almost 3/4 of the cars may be conservative/mild which sucks b/c of the numbers of competition and wild holy shit... you better have 20+g to play w/ the big boys and thats just locals... on the national level you better pull out the whole deck of cards

I have to say that is the best post i have read on these forums. cleanliness is true. I rubbed my hand all over my inner wheel and wheel well when i was judged at this show and came up with nothing. and the judges eyes when wide.

when I judge the redline invite. bretts car was the cleanest car there I tried to find dirt. I did but it was hard.

This has to be one of the first post in a long time that will help the local car show scene.

Having a clean ride goes a long way.

Would you get a better score for rarity of the car. I.E. Just a plain Jane civic done really nicely as opposed to like a rhd supra done nicely as well?

yes sir door jams as well, alot of people close their door but don't be surprise if a judge opens one to look for dirt (by the way a closed up car can loose you points, but so can a dirty car way the options if you don't have a system and trunk is bare sometimes its better to leave it closed )

NO SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR ANY CAR. JUDGE ALL CARS THE SAME
yes sir, example: if you don't want rock chips on your ride drive w/ tape/mask on the front etc. specially for an out of town show

Would you get a better score for rarity of the car.
everything goes on the judges sheet... i would say yes if it were at an IA show. Arash Mahdavi has the rhd silvia and its the farthest thing from a beat up drift car

Here is the IA score sheet we have been using for a while, i've had this score sheet for over 4 years, its used in Tunerfest, Driftfury, and some other events we have judged.

**** hint hint **** having IA stickers will gain you a couple bonus points, we do look for those on every car

well if its a heavily modded car i would say probably not... depending on the mods being throughout the car. let me explain further.

clean stock car: on the judges sheet he would get nothing but 1 all the way down until cleanliness then bonus (if something is worth giving, rarity, ia stickers, display, etc) w/ no bonus the max on that judging sheet would be 15/70

heavily modded but dirty car: he could get a max of 60/70... now even though there is a cleanliness category, just b/c you have a built turbo motor doesn't mean you get a 10 in engine... if your motor is dirty and looks like piss then you will definately get a lower score. a beautiful motor would be Tim's supra or Tom's lightening both are amazing rides w/ bling + tons of power under the hood

let me further say i know some other shows in the past a mild car has won BOS, honestly to me that should never happen, if a mild car wins at a show WOW is all i can say.

normally mild cars get judged as mild and wild gets judged wild. if you have a wild car you better be damn sure you car will be checked through and through. wild class is a more heavily competitive class and its like being on the varsity team you need to step up your game. i remember having judges on their back looking at the undercarraige of my ride for blemishes ... you won't normally see a judges spend that amount of time on a mild car.

what makes you wild? extensive work on the car, shaved, molded, conversions, flashy paint, boosted, lambo doors, air ride, etc... normally a combination of aspects in multiple categorys will give you the WILD class. some cars are borderline sometimes and can be done in either. what may normaly be a mild car can be wild in some shows depending on the compitition, i know we have bumped some cars up/down a class to even out the field.

everything in car shows comes down to judges opinion, 1-2 men decides your score... now when it comes to Best Of's... we have always done that seperately. at IA events Julio/Pablo/I decide together who will recieve the Best of awards... 3 opinions is better then looking at numbers alone, b/c even the 3 of us have our fav and reasons why this car fits the award best.

I stole a pic of that score sheet redid the title on it and used it for the redline invite this year. when I judged. thought it was a good and well rounded score sheet.

great, post. it really is some good pointers.

had a lot of fun saturday. and i dont think my car has ever been that clean. but its possible. sometimes is a pain in the ass to go that extra step of taking things apart, or taking wheels off to clean everything, but in the end it can be worth it!

thanks again for a good show.

dont want to intrude, but If anyone wants a designer to give them a hand with their showing of the vehicle, let me know. I have a few ideas to help spice things up. example. tape a picture of the hottest girl you know nude to the underside of your car, and then put angled mirrors all around the car to show it off!

umm why not just hire a model and make her wear no panties and stand over mirrors in front of your car, for sure to win

cause that would be more costly, but if you wanna win! grins. ooo even better, hire two models to wear no panties, and bent over both ends of the car with a big ole grin on their face. and short short skirts..... though I think it might get uya kicked out the show.

I like to have the album cause I do a lot of my own work, but if it's not gonna make a difference, I'd like to know

Yes they do and you can bet it means alot for a person showing to be able to not just express but show/prove to a judge that the elbow time was invested. A picture is better than words in some cases.

-In my time showing, (goin on 19 years now) I found the BIGGEST help in showing is always have a clean car. Not sorta clean, pretty clean, but Spotless...Brett is one of the very best at this. I began winning because I had clean, not radical, radical NEVER makes up for clean, but the two together are hard to beat.
-Next, be ready to be judged, dont pull in a show expecting time to clean...thats what Fri eve is for...you have to sacrifice to win at anything.
-Judging....Always stand near the car, not over the judge, not close enough to read what he's writing, but be in 20 ft, and I always stand, not lay back in a chair like I dont care, because I do.
-If you have 2 min presentation, walk and point, dont stand at one place and recite a list. I learned to do this 2 min run around, I feel better than most everyone because I wanted to win worse. **Its hard for everyone**, so I use to do 2-3 cars per show, just to get over the fear of it. (An Allstar req is be able to do anyones vehicle on the team btw) Also, if you dont know your own car, why are you showin?!
-Expect hard judging w/ regular judges....I showed SLAP w/ my civic widebody. They were after me I thought. I saw how I got judged harder because I won BOS every week, but they would reach in an rub stuff on my car others didnt get looked at. I had RADICAL mods nit-picked and others mild rides were winning best ofs....I wanted to win, so in time I learned what each judged "looked for" and when I knew who was judging I made sure my Fri eve clean was still good enough.
    - Get prepped to be screwed occasionally. It happens, and its generally an accidental oversight. If you feel it isnt ASK Our team lost a team award by judging accident last year, we won over the next team by a 20 pt AVG! Thats alot.....I was pissed, but it was too late, all I wanted to hear was "we screwed up" Once I heard that, and we ALL saw the evidence, it was cool.

In the end, go for fun, and TRY, to keep it that way. Losing sucks when you spend big $ to win, so decide if you can handle that before you take the big $ plunge!

I must agree, brett probably has the cleanest car i have ever seen.

Thank you sir. But see thats a good thing and bad thing to be known for. Its good to be looked at that way as far as its nice to know people take notice to what I do and the pride I take in making sure not only that every mod works as part as a theme and flows togther but that the time to make and keep everything clean is recognized. The bad side is because of that when my car is judged I get judged harder (Which I like because it makes me clean the way I have always done it, keeps me challenged) but people expect it to be clean so if they find something, I kick myself for not catching a spot they may have found. So its a good and bad thing
