Get a Damn Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. I could pitch that thing into a turn no problem, and it had the power to cruise throug it too. ANd mine had Blown supspension, i would have killed to have decent shocks, would have been even more fun. But it came stock with LSD, had a good clutch, and decent weitht distribution. Mike, when i get my rx7 built chris you and i should get together! Maybe i'll see you at some of the summer events,

hahaha, I am sorry. But after the first Formula Drift (drift atlanta), I almost died from laughing. His friends made this huge hype about him, and he blew it. hehehe.

240s are th future! Someone find me one! A black 97 with an SR20DETTTTTTTTTTTT, those are so sick.

Is it true they come with 4 turbos stock?

If mr2's and nsx's had 4 turbos they could drift as good as 240s! The drift king said so himself. I saw the drift bible 4575467 times. I know!!!

See goddammit, this is why I sold my Nissan(s)....I fell out of love with them....

Do you know how much money he has in that mr2? not only that, but he has never actually qualified for formula D... but he's a proffesional drifter if you ask him... LoL. Mike could out drift him in the miata. I know that because i've ridded with him on the track, And on the cloverleaf... what a ride!

As a top 10 Formula Drift professional experienced driver, and the 2005 Rookie of the Year I would have to say out of all the delightful vehicles I have been honored to drive, the best car to drift is somethign you've rented.

    1) Drifting breaks things
    2) Drifting kills tires
    3) Drifting can cause a wreck
    4) Drifting is illegal, but not a crime
    5) Break it? not your problem, you have $8/day insurance
    6) Rental cars come with rental tires.
    7) See #5. Remember, 80% of drunk drivers leave the scene of an accident
    8) Rental cars come with rental car looking vehicles that when you cover the plate, probably wont get traced back to you
    9) Rental cars come with free roadside assistance, and they will replace your tires for free if you "have a flat"
    10) Its a rental car.

im alil torn on this subject.... I am a japanese and american.....i dont really hate on american cars drifting but personally all my fav's are japanese cars..... i think its alil akward seein american cars drift at times... i love old american cars...they are beautiful cars...but i cant see one driftin just out of fear of wreckin them and the $$$ it would take to fix them

my personal fav drift cars ar S chassis cars and old toyota's but thats just based on preference.....i think ae86's and 240's get alil too much attention i like older toyotas just as much...alil harder to find and stuff but they def have a smooth oldskool feel.

i also agree that its really the driver...i mean a good driver can addapt to anything so its really prefference and feel.

as far as the american cars winnin drift in US....i think there is alot of bias in that...also when u have all these SUPER HIGH POWERED american cars against moderately tuned japanese its an obvious advantage in my oppinion...i read japanese drift mags and watch drift vids from over there and have talked to drivers...and when u see there super high powered 240's and ALL these cars we dont even have and stuff. id just love to see them over here...not just ur moderately tuned sr swapped s chassis u see here.....jpns arent sendin there best because they have no interest here... i think its buildin up...but D1 here really doesnt interest me....

i think driftin is becoming to flashy here and there (japan) its no longer about track times.... and smooth runs.. or speed its about who can throw up the most smoke...that bores me a bit.. i mean even some of the recent shows i get from jpns tv... some of it is all show and its obvious they are just spittin smoke for show....
and thats how i see d1 here...i went and watched a viper just spit smoke... and i see american cars with ridiculous sponsorship and interest just tryin to boost the american car market goin against 20 year old jpns beaters...yes the japanese cars are tunned but to mee they are 2 different beasts designed for 2 diff things.... dont get me wrong...vipers....gto's.....even some mustangs....pretty BAD ASS CARS...and they can go sideways WITH WEIGHT REDUCTION OUT THE ASS lol jp.....but a ae86 was never meant to have 500 hp..and puttin a viper up against one is stupid to me.... but it was amazing to me that a lil car like that kept up....yall need to look at the big picture

remember this is just an opinion of a kid... i am a tad bias... Japanese Pride :-D but i try to think realistic about this....

and also american D1 tracks arent real drift coarse and have alot of straight aways and such....i think a windy-er coarse would show the true potential of the lil nimble cars.... i mean drift atlanta was a straight away with a 45 degree turn a sweep and alil loop...... idk flame me if you want...but i felt it was weak....i loved every second of it cuz i love the sport......but it wasnt on the same level...

    thanks for your time. :jerkit:

I agree about the atl track. I live 5 miles from road atlanta, and the drift track really is Weak Sauce.

so does that mean you think you could run the course?

that course isn't weak at all. easy 80+mph entry downhill into 10a starting VERY early, try to scrub enough speed to not play in the kitty litter but be able to link 10b and then you get to contend with an uphill run in and through the horseshoe. after the horseshoe try to carry your slide all the way down the hill back into 10b, all over the brakes to not become part of the wall there and make the final transition into 10a again (also staying out of the wall).

Well apparently a few people who have run it have openly admitted hating it. And i can understand that it may be hard, but im not just talking about how hard the track is. Consider what i said more mainstream as far as entertainment than actually breaking it down. Sorry for sounding as if i just talk out of my ass, didn't mean too. And no, i am not skilled enough to run the course, i have not had near enough practice, and won't for some time. BTW, nice runs at SFS5, you were tearing it up.

drifting is the shit, you cant say shit if youve never done it or never road in a car while its drifting. its such a rush, yeah you may break things and you go threw tires, and you can crash and it's illegal but hell thats the fun of it. you cant be scared to fuck your car up. that goes with any motorsport. like i always say when it come to drag racing"if your not breaking shit your not pushing the car hard enough." see with drifting you can always improve you technique. its a none stop learning experience.

as far as entertainment goes do you suggest using another section of the track for it? i can't think of another area on that track that would be more suited for a tandem drift competition really. in 10a/b you have enough turns to make it interesting, and as far as spectators go there's tons of room for everyone to crowd on both sides of the track there to watch. logistically it's the only spot around that fits the bill. irwindale for example, i don't find it to be that entertaining of a course save for the super high speed entry. i mean you have righthand bank through a small chicane, then back onto the banking ~100mph and finish up and a slow J-turn. the speed makes it pretty thrilling to watch but otherwise it's a rather boring setup. maybe i'm speaking too much from a driving perspective than spectator though.

and thanks, i was having a blast running tandems with marty and tony all day.

You see what i mean though, you say it is boring. That is more what i meant. youre just much better at putting it into words. I realize there is nowhere else really to do it, but you know what i mean.

Oh and yes, watching the tandem was pretty sweet. you guys rock, i love that we have a lot of skilled drifters to represent down here, makes it all that much more fun to watch while i don't have a car to enter. Hopefully in a few months my car shall be done, and i can squeeze into 3 or 4 of the later events until next year. I can't wait....

never "drifted" before, but i have huge respect for the sport and the drivers. i will probably never try the sport due to the fact grip driving/auto x/NASA club racing is my passion and the fact my car wouldnt make the best of drift cars lol. the problem i see though is that the sport has become too mainstream and has lost alot of attention from hardcore fans due to the fact its all depended on the show factor and factory backed drivers will always beat out privateer teams. that part in general is what lost my attention. i would go to a local practice day and watch amature drivers in mustangs and Corollas spin out b4 i would want to waist my money on another drift atlanta. the low budget everyday street car out there competing is what i think makes drifting so appealing, and the more and more corporate oriented the sport becomes it will slowly become something of our "stock car racing," which is anything but as of todays standereds. i just hope we here in america dont ruin the sport.

Can admit one person That i really admire his style is Aaron i believe his name is in the S13 converted Coupe(Blue w/ GTR2's i believe)! The way he raped the course at Turner field DG trials on Mar 4 was nasty! That first Turn he would intiate his drift before the turn come out of that and flow shifting the weight into the next turn, but he had that first turn on lock down! His Transition into turns and out of drifts is so smooth. I'm lucky i got to view this all from marty's car when they were runnin tandem in the end and when i was cone chasing! All the fact about this is Aaron is a local without sponsors i believe and he rely's on his skills and him knowing the characteristics of his car and its parts. Big up to him and keep up the good work! Sorry if thats not your name i think it is though at least thats what marty told me! And Marty is nice with it also they way he works that little miata if anything that car and him are good contenders with anyone hands down. Same as for marty his car just flows into each and every drift its like how the hell did he do that! Oh yeah marty this is PJ the kid that road with you at the end of DG trials when you did the tandem with Aaron! Big props to both of ya'll!

If you wanna see low budget drifting come out to the drift fury event. I will be driving a Miata with completely stock suspension and an open diff.

Big props to both of ya'll!

i appreciate the kind words, even though i was pretty sloppy most of the day (weren't you riding with him when i blew the line on T1 and he passed me underneath?). i think that a lot of us local grassroots guys are on a similar level and it's anyone's ballgame at every event we all run in together.

Hell yeah! $200 drift car, lets weld the rearend. Does it have a 305 or a 350? You better bring a mullet wig, wear Def Leppard shirt, and play AC/DC while drifting.

It's a 305, but it's strong LoL. I finally cracked this guy and got it for $200 instead of the $500 he wanted for months. Drove the thing home! 1986 Iroc, beat but runs and drives great!! I have been drifting it a little, and it does well at 30-50 if i put it down in "2". Posi still holding up. Best $200 i ever spent.

HOWEVER. I just looked into the event. If there is a spot left on thursday, i will be registering. But not in the iroc. It won't see any events... Yet... I will be entering the 1988 Rx7 i just bought thursday. I sold my old Turbo coupe Tbird that i had learned to really drift in a few months ago after it blew up, and im so greatful to be back in a decent rwd car! This will be my first event! Im stoked!

any of you guys that want instruction are more than welcome to ask for it from me and any of the others out there. as for ridealongs, same deal. as long as i'm not running tandems then i don't mind at all.

edit: oh, and i won't be driving at the private day unfortunately. i am going to try to be there to help out and possibly bring the tire machine down but i'm trying to save some money right now to be able to keep doing events all year without putting myself deep into debt .
