    Default Racecar Engineering USF1 Article...

    http://racecar-engineering.com/news/...-revealed.html

"Racecar Engineering recently visited the new USF1 facility in North Carolina to see how the team is progressing and to talk about their 2010 car which is called the Type 1.
The author spent a day touring the team's facility and suppliers and talking to team Principal Ken Anderson.

Despite rumours to the contrary, USF1s facility is complete and fully functional with build areas, design facilities and well equipped machine and composites shops. The author was even lucky enough to see the first tubs being laid up ready to be autoclaved, USF1 have in house facilities to construct the complete car, however they are choosing to outsource some work due to time constrains.

Team Principal Ken Anderson explained that the teams approach would be as a lean, ‘Skunk Works' operation drawing on the considerable motorsport, aerospace and defence industries present in the US. This has meant the calibre of some of their technical partners is impressive, for example Corvid, who are providing CFD capabilities are also working on the aerodynamic package for the Aegis missile system.

With additional facilities like the Windshear wind tunnel just a few miles away and the vast quantity of motorsport engineering expertise in the Charlotte area, placing a team in North Carolina starts to look like a very sensible idea.

Whilst details must be kept sparse for the moment, the author can confirm that the new car design is both striking and innovative, without a ‘Stars and Stripes' livery in sight.
Certain features of the design definitely buck the norm, allowing for some very tight packaging, and result in what can only be described as an ‘attractive' car. Rest assured the design will raise some eyebrows at its launch. The car will run for the first time in Alabama after the FIA gave dispensation for the Type 1's early testing to take place in North America. The team has also been allowed extra running at Windshear.

Look out for a full feature coming soon in the March issue of Racecar Engineering."

ALSO, Jose Maria Lopez has supposedly signed with the team. Not sure if that's new or old I honestly haven't been following this team much. I read Argentina may sponsor the car for tourism? What....??? lol
