Default So I have this "race car" now what.

So me and some friends fitted a 300zx out with a 6 point roll cage, harnesses, fire extinguisher, hood mounted kill switch etc for the 24 hours of LeMons. What's the best place to go take this thing to have some fun on a track some where. Does anywhere local have a class that this thing would be legal for?

btw, if its a lemons car, you probably need to put some more work into it before you take it out on track for a real road race event.

I'll tell you what the stickys are for.

They are for solutions to common problems in a sub-forum and should be checked before posting a thread.

Read through this THOROUGHLY and you'll get what you want.

SCCA, NASA, BMWCCA, CHIN, etc. event dates

It's a race between piece of crap cars. They have to be less than like 1000 dollars

Must be nice on those occasions where you are so powerful, the rules change for you.

Example: 1990 F1 where Ferrari was allowed to use a V12 instead of the initial all v8s plan. Even built an Indy car to explore options.

What type of cage? If you just welded in a random cage you may be in for a rude awakening lolol.

Also to really ROAD RACE not the LeMons stuff, you need a seat, if it's not FIA approved a seat back brace, fire system, cage meeting class and vehicle weight, as well as tubing type, kill switch wired per rule book, and some other things.

Autocross is your friend if you made it illegal for anything else lol.

I did read the stickies first, I just asked since I'm sure there's more stuff out there and most of the stuff in the stickies were solo events. Nobody even mentioned circle track racing, but I get the idea that's not to popular around here.

Also the lemons rules have a bunch of the stuff you mentioned. Seat has to be approved, otherwise braced. Tubing has to be sized for weight class, etc.

And they didn't kick us out. They didn't even give us any penalty laps.

ohh, you had a slicktop...150lbs lighter. Do want with a LS2, head work, 244/242 cam, and 10-12lb. flywheel. Sitting on high end coil-overs. An ideal play car for me.

Z31. No way we could get a z32 for under $500 (as per lemons rules)

Lemme see if i can't dig up a picture. It's not exactly a looker.

just go to Roebling Road and run a few HPDE events to "shake down" the car. Several Orgs runs events there. check out these sites...

And if you want to race wheel-to-wheel...NASA has a class for any type of car. However you will need to get a competition license first. The next competition school is at CMP in Nov.

...NASA also has great track days, as does Chin, and BMWCCA, and everyone else.

SCCA and NASA both offer a class for anything. Usually you can't just jump into NASA's comp school, it's not like SCCA.

True, but with almost ANY track experience...you can talk you way in. Run a HPDE or 2 and then register for NASA Comp School. I have seen guys with 2 HPDE go to Comp school...

Yeah, but what Laze1 might not know is the extent of that person's driving exploits before coming to a NASA HPDE. I personally know of one guy who really did only two HPDEs before taking NASA's comp school. What people might not have known was that this person has been racing karts for years before getting into something a bit larger.

Our regional director isn't going to just let any schmoe with just a couple of HPDEs under his/her belt go to our comp school.
