Default MotoGP champs Roberts and Schwantz honored at Indy Motogp weekend.

Kenny Roberts "King Kenny" was 1978, 1979, and 1980 500cc champion and voted GP legend on the very first ballot in 2000. Before that, he raced American flat track and on a special night in 1975, showed the Harley Davidson "Michigan Mafia" what a Yamaha TZ750 road racing engine would do in a dirt tracker chassis. (With no front brakes)

    FasterandFaster...

Kenny Roberts, who won 500cc motorcycle GP racing world championships with Yamaha in 1978, 1979 and 1980, was back in action last weekend, during the USGP at Indianapolis. No, not aboard an old YZR500, but on something that’s probably a bit scarier. Roberts rode his old Yamaha TZ750 dirt-tracker, turning in a few fast laps at the Indy Mile AMA dirt track race on Saturday.

Roberts, who rode the ‘evil’ TZ750 to victory at the Indy Mile back in 1975, showed that at 57 years of age he still has what it takes to ride a 125bhp (and no front brakes, remember!) brute on a dirt track. And get this – he did not do a single practice lap. No, the man just turned up and went flat out ut on a bike that was (is?) considered almost impossible to ride. The Grandpa from hell? Damn right. Respect is due...

And now, for my favorite ever rider.

Kevin "Revin" Schwantz is the 1993 500cc champion and was the most exciting rider of his era. (The greatest ever era) Win or crash never spoke on anyone more than #34. If you look back at pics of Valentino Rossi as a little kid, you can see him wearing a Schwantz replica helmet.

During the weekend, Kevin rode a 2010 Moto2 machine but the weekend highlight (for me at least) was Kevin riding his title winning Suzuki XR79 RGV-Γ (RGV500)

I was there. Kenny Roberts is the man, that bike sounded Godly. If you were there, did you see the first turn wreck?

No he didn't wreck, but in the main event there was a nasty crash. two bike went over the wall, I saw one guy fly through the air over the wall and apparently he hit a light pole a some point and broke/shattered his hip. It was probably the nastiest wreck I've ever seen, and after riding mx for years I've seen a lot of nasty wrecks.
Rossi had planned on riding the tz750 but he said over the intercom that after watching Kenny ride it that I didn't seem like such a good idea anymore. Then kenny said well maybe you're not as dumb as you look.

On a sidenote, I still can't believe Rossi went down.

Did you take pics. That sounds like an event I'd never ever forget.

I was watching the race with some people at school. One was Italian....he was MAD!

Kevin Schwantz FTW, I will admit I didn't know much of his history until you posted things about him EJ, and I was around him every week almost lol.
