Default Helping running a road course.

Ok I know nothing about road courses but would like to try it out. I don't want to take 2-3 cars somewhere for them to say that we can't run because of something to do with the car. Anyone willing to come out and give me some pointers on getting them set up just for some fun? I don't care to get competitive quite yet but wanting to run the course and make sure everyone is interested before spending some $$$ on the cars.

as long as the car is in good, SAFE condition, you will be fine. your best option is to do a PDX or one of NASA's HPDE events.

some things i would personally get before tracking any car:

    GOOD alignment.
GOOD brake pads. hawk blue or similar.
GOOD tires. falken azenis, bridgestone re-01s, etc.
GOOD suspension. at least shocks and springs.

i would do a complete bolt check, bleed brakes, make sure all lugs are torqued, and basically sort out all the bugs on the car before i tracked it. when you are pushing a car to its limits, a small problem can turn into a BIG one FAST.

i hope that helped. if i can answer any other questions, i will.

Thanks Jesse I should of just called you or Simon on this.

I have a few Miata's and we are wanting to just go play. I don't care if they are competitive but I want them safe. I need suggestion on roll bars, etc. and what the track require to run at them.

Simon let me get a few things in order and we will get together.

    Thanks again!

If it's your first track event, I can guarantee you won't be racing, so don't worry about being "competitive".

Mostly, you have to worry about what the club who running the event requires. Very few tracks mandate safety equipment beyond what the club, i.e. NASA, SCCA, SeatTime, Turn One, etc, requires. The only exception that I can think of off the top of my head is probably Barber Motorsports Park; they require convertibles to have a five point harness, arm restraints, and a roll bar.

NASA requires a roll bar capable of suppprting the weight of the vehicle for HPDE.

Check out SRDEC . Scott Siegel runs a track day almost every month, great for beginners and novices.
