Default Practicing a few pan shots

With the new camera. No photoshopping besides resizing.

Got bored after my dental appt.

The S2k is a little more exposed than I wanted but I was testing some things on the camera.

Yeah.... uhhhhh. Yeah, set shutter speed to 1/78% degredation angle. Then hyper-isolate all of the primary colors w/ the fixed aperture setting. Real technical stuff here, not for the faint of heart. I have some pan shots of my own...

Thanks man. Basically a pan shot is when you move the camera side to side while you are shooting, in the same direction and speed as the subject, in this case, the car and pepsi truck. What happens is that everything that isn't moving is blurred a bit, and everything that IS moving, is frozen. The slower the shutter speed, the more pronounced the effect.

    ..or the faster the subject

This is shot number 182 with my old camera taken several years ago 2 days after i bought it, actually my first camera and had really never used one at all before...only a few stills of scenery but never any cars and definitely not anything moving. The car was going just under 190mph with me standling tripodless less than 100 feet away using full auto settings...barely knew what shutterspeed was and didn't have a clue how to change it, had the instruction manual in one hand and camera in the other at petit le mans

You gonna let me use your Dfiddy with you one day I wanna see what a real camera will do

I have a shitload of shots like this from last year's petit le mans... lol I had to kind of teach myself the technique on the fly. All of a sudden I understood why when you look through the lens using the eyepiece there's crosshairs there. Here's a couple (they've been edited in photoshop, obviously)... I don't think I did too badly considering my subjects were moving upwards of 160mph, and I was shooting using my crappy FinePix A205

^^old one.. dirty ass show car, but a cool pic I think

I'll put up more if you guys want em when I get home

Fuck stance. Stance is for kids in skinny jeans with Justin Beiber haircuts. You don't need stance when you got swagger.

Nope, it's through turns 3 and 4. I was standing on the bed of a truck as to be able to shoot over the fence.

Turn 6 is one of my favorite spots, though. I have a lot of pics from there, no glowing rotor shots though.

What shutter speed was this? 1/100th? 1/80th?

What do you shoot with man? Nice shots btw.

Seems like it was probably darker than it looks since you bumped the ISOs up higher.

I shot that with a Canon 1DMKII and a 70-200 F2.8L - I sold my 1D earlier this year and went back to a 20D. It was right around sunset when I took those pics. I couldn't find a good spot to pan at that was lit up so I had to stop once the sun went down.

That pic was taken at 1/320 ISO1000 according to the EXIF data. I don't think I could pan at 1/120 at higher ISOs without it being blurry. My lens doesn't have image stabilization.
