like others have said, this is the stuff that got me into imports, but ive always been more interested in racing and motorsports than the show scene.
The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.
Same here. These kind of cars actually repelled me from the import scene initially. But like you said, I can respect the time that went into them.Originally Posted by Danzo

oh man. These were the heavy hitter cars back in the day. I remember seein a lot of these cars for the first time at a shop that used to be off Buford Hwy. I cant remember the name, Hybrid racing i think. Brooks worked there. They had a few crazy shows there. I still talk to icehouse, and he still has the crv at his house. These are the good old days
That's right. But there weren't ever any shows there. Just meets all the time.

Thats what i meant. Thats where i saw half of these cars for the first time. I was 15 with my learners and i drove up there with my dad with me. I remember seein a lot of these cars being built at UAB when their shop was off cripple creek rd in Lawrenceville. My neighborhood was right behind there. I remember jeffs car when it was just yellow with a body kit. Sooooooo much money and hours went into that car. I would love to see it again.
Funny how body kits were cool back in the day, now there for ricers on a PepBoys budjet.

Kind of ironic that I recognize these cars and I wasn't even part of IA or knew it existed yet

I don't think Mike ever liked the Hyundai's though Brady, Nitro, Bryan, and myself all had one a few years ago...I miss my Tib...
I can understand that...there were a few in the mix...lol
Damn, That was my last Official Show, Never seen that pic. I remember the entrance was brutal it was hard to NOT scrape your bumper pulling in.
i'm gonna go cry myself to sleep now.
Leisa and S. 4 Life NM?
pussy
house of turbo subarus...its all we'll drive
wow bringin it back
damn. this is what i aspired to be like in 2003. but i never had the money to fullfil my dreams.
i had dreams of white leather interior white 17" wheels & a body kit (which is as far as i got) i never got to complete my interior.
my car ended up going down again deserpate times called for desperate measures so i sold my rims for dirt cheap and my bodykit.
but then during my slump i noticed times were changing in late 04
good post Mike.....damn the memories....this is when getting together for the same common interest was fun

That's when shows were shows.
I remember being out of Paint Cleaner and Paul driving down to give me some.....in JACKSONVILLE, FLA.
I remember at a show in Alabama where I walked by a car and really liked the music mix he was playing. Told him that I liked it, and he literally hit the eject button and handed it to me......that was Steve Kubon.
I remember many times where Patrycja has gotten down on her hands and knees to help me prep the car at a show.
I remember where entire huge canopies "walked" down the parking lot to be present when they called out trophies.....Wild Bill show back in 03 I think.
When cotton in the fender wells was cool, mirrored hoods, and clear tails were in.....when going to a show in the middle of summer and drinking beer with your buddies was the highlight of your week......when you meet someone's significant other for the first time when she takes the stage AT THE WET-T CONTEST AND WINS THE WHOLE THING....*cough* Paul *cough*......when NOPI NATS was a cool show to win at......Good times indeed.
Too bad it will never be like that again I'm afraid. Some of you guys would've enjoyed that so much more than what you have now.
P.S. Thanks Julio for having a pic of me in the OG memoirs post.......thanks buddy.....

"WE" will never be like the old times.. why because thats life.. Some of Us just grow up, more responsibilities etc.
I enjoy cars.. I don't love cars. I have come to that conclusion. Some people Love cars.. But me, I enjoy them.
I made a thread in 03 where I talked about how the "show scene" was going to ROT and fall a part. I decided that Nopi 2003 was my last SHOW ever.. which it was.
I showed my car for 5 years..who knows how many shows up and down the east coast.. and When I quit showing, stripped my car, went to Mahdavi and they did my swap.. I only had the car for one more year after that.. Shit, Honestly I had never enjoyed that car like that one year alone.
Even though, After I made that thread on IA about how the show scene had it days and years numbered it stayed strong for 2 more years after that.. But by 05 we knew where it was going..
Now is dead and not the same.
There was a lot of competition back then, but at the end of the day, we will all "for the most" part, be cool..and still friends.
I look back and think, damn we were some idiots spending all that money on those lame ass cars.. damn, what a waste.. But you know what, Who Am I to judge.. I really couldn't, I was part of it.
Waking up at 6am to have a the car clean for a show at 9am that morning.. But mind you, we had spent the whole day before cleaning and waxing for the event.. crazy times indeed.
Back then it was more about the car and not the person.. Now you go to a meet and you see girls 1/2 naked and dudes trying to show off there gear or new phone or camera more then there car....
They drive in shitty ass Civic or 240's, literally with no paint, but have $200 pair of jordans, a $800 camera and $500 phone... and there $25 Green A-town hat to the side.. Is more of a fashion show now a days..
If they see me at a meet with slipper or flip flops I may get laughed at.. or made fun in one of the individual groups...
Is not the same.. why? Time is not the same.. Thats why I enjoy going to these Hot rods shows lately , because to most of them guys and gals out at those shows, is about the car, not them..
I also, enjoy going to the drag strip as well.
I never enjoyed drifting, cause I knew it was a fad.. there was a lot of hype when it starting blowing up in the states.. But where is it a now? Not as big any more.... hnmm...
I don't think it will never be the same, I honestly don't care if it does.. I know personally I'm not the same, so... it wont for me no matter what...
Even back then there was a difference : there were properly built cars and those that were not built right.... Of course for show..
What I like about all those crazy days and nights cleaning cars, shows and meets is, I meet a lot of cool people and some that till this days are still friends...and when we see each other is always a good 5 to 10 minutes conversation just catching up.. because I understand life is not what It was years ago... We grew up..Some got married with families now..
And in the middle of all that "controlled chaos " Importatlanta was born.
Honestly I'm not involved any more as I used to with events eh, sometimes, and if it wasn't for IA I would probably not be around any more.
So with that said, When if, IA ever vanishes of my hands.. I wont be around.. move on.. I got phone numbers to close friends and some of them do to..
So really, Life changes, Not the actual passion for cars.. The passion will be there for some... Is just some of us just have no other choice but to move on...
The new guys today will be feeling the same way in 5 to 10 years from now,
" all the good old days " at the point, some of us today may not even be around, shit, we may be driving shitty cars or better cars.. Life is like a Spin top.. You spin and spin and spin, but you will never land in the same place...
To me, is not even about cars anymore.. Is other things now that make more sense..
Anyways, enough of me rambling.. just thought I share what i thought about all this yiba yaba..
Hah that CR-V is nuts. Interesting to see how styles have changed...how most people would claim to vomit at the sight of such cars now.

shit you aint the only one that would be quick to go to a meet in flops!
but yeah bro... i admire those days and what they stood for. me and Walker had a conversation about this one day. I'd like for it to get back to the days of the old where it was more than my car is better than yours because i have "ballin parts". back there it was cool to push the envelope and originate ideas of your own. now not so much.
times have indeed changed and so have styles. sure the styling of cars may never be as they were in 2000 but i hope to bring back the comraderie
