Lol no offense car looks like shit
Never really been a fan of them.. not much on neon
No offense taken after looking at your sig. lol
I don't know what that means, not a fan of Neons? Me either, was them Neons? Why not much on Neon? Confusing post is confusing. Although I find it funny when Honda owners aren't fans of Neons although Neons have quite a bit more performance out of the box, goofy looking, but better performance.
Don't sweat it, man. Honda "bois" have been that way since day one. Bought my neon back in 1998 when the car was basically 3 years old. Got ridiculed quite a bit (funny, though, never on IA). It was always funny though, because the ridicule was always taking place in my rearview mirror. Seems Honda people don't like losing (they buy Hondas because they think they're buying race cars). What they don't know, I guess, is that the Honda Civic is NOT a race car straight out the box. The neon was. The neon was the better car in most all (if not all) performance classes in it's class in the late 90's. Later, QD.
Alright, QD, but they still look goofy :P
Race car on racetrack.
Hide y0 wife, hide y0 kids.
Neon, Type-R.. heh
Can I ride in your Type R

Lol that body style neon is so ugly, but, that body style R/t was much faster thang any civic UNTIL the 99-00 Si came out.
The R/T versions were quick but I'm sorry their styling was awful. But you're right a track car doesn't need to be pretty and I'm sure these cars are like $1000 now lol

It's an ACR not an R/T. Not really any difference engine wise though in the form of power that I know of, QD could tell you. lol They are dirt cheap to find a stock Neon laying around for spare parts. The beauty of having a Neon race car. Bend the frame and find another for $400, swap the race parts over, good to go!
Oh and actually the 99-00 SI was slower at the track than the ACRs in the same class, Honda was mad and got trunk kits for those models which then allowed them an advantage over the ACRs.
There is one on CL right now for $500. Makes me wanna buy and build a "awful looking" race car.
Not an ACR just that body style neon. I said awful cause everyone was saying they are ugly. I personally think they look alright. Then again I have a purple civic who am I to judge the looks of cars. LOL
Well I what I mean is any civic EX with a whopping 115whp and a slush box transmission was no match for the r/t acr neon
I thought ACR only came in the white with blue race stripes?
IIRC r/t was rated at like 155-160hp, I thought the acr was same engine just "factory tuned" suspension.
When the SI came out it was just a much more aggressive and stylish car, 8200 redline, double wishbone suspension, unlimited mods.
I think most people would agree the SI was a muc better car, although thR neons were far cheaper and not far behind or ahead

No, the R/T was the one with stripes at least I think so, I really don't have much Neon knowledge aside from their race history which is absolutely massive with the pro series, huge factory support and payouts, television coverage, etc.
In my opinion the ACR Neon was far more of an aggressive car than the SI, not as good looking and the SI I agree has a better engine but from a "hardcore" standpoint the ACR was pretty race ready. The ACR was built to race, it had adjustable Konis stock, springs, close ratio gearbox, faster steering rack, just the bare essentials to save weight, etc. QD could tell you more. The engines are the same, I just didn't know if the ACR had anything different bolt on wise to it, I know some ACRs or all had Mopar tuned computers, not sure if that was an R/T thing as well.
I didn't build this car so I don't know a LOT about Neons, I bought it purely because it was just about ready to race minus some updates to newer race standards and I got a killer deal on it.
looks like your having a blast with it!
any future plans for it??
Not really, I have been slowly updating the car since I bought it. Rules have changed slightly since it was last race so I've just had to update small things like safety equipment (extra door bars on the cage, window net mounts, belts, etc) and I'll be racing it in sprint races and some enduros later this year. Modification wise the class it's in is pretty strict but I'd like to upgrade the suspension to a more aggressive setup for that class and maybe a little bit of engine work if budget allows. Racing in general is expensive so I'm just doing what HAS to be done before I worry about the other goodies. lol
No way, man. The 2nd gen (latest gen) is horrid looking. I hate what they did to the 2000+ neons.
No sir. The neon outperformed the Civic SI as well. Especially on track. In my championship seasons, I had 2 Civic SIs in my class and they fell behind me and another neon. The first time I raced an SI was at Reynolds. Both of us had intake and exhaust.
Let's just say he could tell you what kind of exhaust I had, lolol. Later, QD.
The ACR came in a multitude of colors. The way to tell the ACR was that it had bumpers with fog light holes but no fog lights and no side moldings. That was it. The ACR came in a SOHC and a DOHC engine with the engine computer speed limiter removed. It also had Koni adjustable dampers from the factory. Later, QD.
love it. at least you race your car, not like these hard parker's that can only go straight.
when i hear "JDM" i think about 1998 and FF SQUAD. the originators
BABIES "R" US crew
Ok rephrase a part 3
There wasn't a civic in the neon r/t or acr class until the civic SI came out. I remember Te biggest problem the neon had over the civic SI was nothing to do with performance. It was looks and luxury and other aesthetic stuff.
Neon always had a pretty big race following. They actually held up really well over time too.
I did have a buddy that had a RT and wrecked it , he bought a 99 SI and was for happier with that car over his neon. But I remember him saying he thought the neon may have been slightly faster
