    Default It's Mustang Time

I decided to quit the Honda game. And I ended up with this 97 GT that I got for a very good price. Previous owner thought the transmission was bad but the stop pins for the short shifter were too tight. I backed them out and trans shifts like butter. I also painted the tail light bezels black, I would have preferred color matched but black is better than gray.

It has H pipe, replica fr500s, and is lowered just a tad.

Wheels are 17x9 and 17x 10.5. 315s in the rear.

Color is Autumn orange, which is a fairly rare color from what I understand. I can't seem to get it to come out well with the pictures I take. Well, on to the shitty iphone pics...

I like it. how does it feel to have torque now? If it were me, I'd lower it a couple more inches.

I like it. But it's still a 15 sec car. I'd love to lower it more, but I am kind of enjoying not having to crawl over speed bumps and R/R tracks for a change.

Do a PI headswap off a newer GT (Look for the Romeo heads, 11 bolt holes on the valve cover instead of 13, as the Windsors tend to blow plugs out). Do the cams, and intake with it, good exhaust, and a gear and you'll have a pretty quick car without breaking the bank.

Thanks man. I already had a problem with it. lol I was losing voltage like the alternator was dead, but I traced the wire from the alternator back to the fuse box and it was fully corroded through. Fuckin' Mustangs.... So I replaced it and everything was good. (After I wasted 200 bucks on an alternator that is)

Common problem with all fords from the era. But like zack said, PI heads cams and intake, tune, 4.10's and some DR's you'll be in the 12's.

I warn you now - all Mustangs are money pits - my foxbody is probably the worst money pit that I have ever had. Set a budget, and plan to double it - at least.

why do you say that? is it because you will always want more power?

There are so many little things that you have to do to make it a decent car. 5 lug conversion if you want anything other than factory Ford style wheels, rear calipers if you want decent rear brakes, whole spindles/rotor/calipters/master cylinder if you want ok brakes all around. New axles and gears if you don't want them to break, plus weld up the axle tube, put on a brace and a girdle. Get an aftermarket block if you want more than 500 rwhp, get all forged internals, get a better tranny if you want more than 300rwhp, and you will need to upgrade the clutch or convertor no matter if auto or stick. Buy an aftermarket ECU if you want to have any real flexibility on tuning. The list goes on. Oh yeah, if you want any power, you need some heads and intake also, or FI.

For all of the money that I have had to dump i mone, I could have bought a single digit car already - and mine is barely faster than stock. It's all been basic maintenance. I spent $1500 on it last week on maintenance replacing all of the leaky seals, will spend another $1500 on it tomorrow on a 5 lug conversion/brake upgrade so that I can put on some new wheels, and will still need to spend another $1500 on it next week to finish up the maintenance work. That doesn't even address the transmisison, which needs about $3K dumped into it also, as reverse has died. I don't plan to sell the car though, so its ok. Better have deep pockets to make an old car nice though.

i am planning to get a 99-04 just for a daily with good sounding exhaust and some staggard wheels like 17x9's in the front and 17x10's in the rear.

That's what you said before you got your current car as well, right?

If you have a 5 speed (NO POWERSHIFTING !!!!!!) or you will be buying new synchros and shift forks lol

Why did you buy a complete transmission, if only your reverse went out? That could have been fixed for cheap.

I've never been a fan of that body style...for me it would have to be a cobra/saleen or I see no point in getting a mustang...I think the white integra was nicer looking as I've always loved the those jdm front ends

Saleen is a company that makes parts for Mustangs, and provides Mustangs with performance packages. They do a lot more thna just body kits.

well yea your right but i am 35 and dont really care about speed anymore, hell i drive a bagged mini truck now. but i have my wife and daughter to think about and i will always have a slightly modified car/truck for the rest of my life because stock anything sucks. i am just wanting something clean w/wheels and exhaust to drive and maybe keep it longer than the rest if you know what i mean. i would even consider a V6 because i have been listening to sound clips on youtube of 99-04 V6 with the same exhaust set ups as a V8 and they sound close enough for me.

Had a 99 V6 also - with a modified foxbody H pipe on it also with Flowmasters. Don't do it. Too raspy, not enough rumble. Go with the V8.
