To be politically correct, thats an ls6 in the first pics. I asked the guys working on it lol. I thought it was an ls1 too. They all look the same. I'm seriously considering one for an FC.

way to ruin a car man. not because you are putting a piston engine in it. but youll have to modify it so it cant be reverted back to stock easily.

When stock equals a blown, worn our rotary, why would you ever want to go back to stock? But I agree, it looks rather hacker/fubared up in that engine bay. Seems like the FDs are more LSX worthy than the FCs....

Can never go wrong with an LS1. Do it, and live by my motto. LS Swap Everything....except the engines that are obviously better of course.

and makes me laugh out loud.

If you're on a budget, I'd go w/ the 5.3L or 4.8L. I wouldn't be as concerned about the iron vs aluminum motor as I would be about simply getting the swap completed. Once everything is in and working, the upgrade process is comparatively simple from the 4.8L up to the 7.0L.
Though, probably the most cost efficient way to go about this is to find a wrecked F-body.

If you're serious about this, contact Charlie at Mazcare here in Atlanta for a local repository of info.

ya i was kinda thinkin the same thing but i am to far into my current build that i would lose money switch it up now.

but what i want to know is how well does the lsx swaped rx7 handle compared to the 13 rx7 no body really has a straight answer

"Handling" is subjective because it includes factors other than numbers. It includes the seat-of-the-pants feeling while going around a corner, which could also be related to how power is applied.
Different strokes for different folks, but I don't see how a v8rx7 can be a "disappointment" in terms of the feeling. It changes the nature of the car, from being high-strung (to extract the power) to being high-torque instant response.
Numbers like skidpad g's and corner balance weights show almost no difference (and are easily brought to 50/50 F/R depending on things like battery placement). For the longest time, people said that the swap would screw up the weight distribution, but that has now been proven wrong time and time again. Now, some people like to nitpick and say that there is a "higher center of gravity" because of the LS1 being taller. Perhaps, but I highly doubt that the miniscule/fractional difference in feel is going to noticably detract from the smiles per mile factor that you feel, being able to pin the throttle and immediately getting smashed into the seat.
Visit www.norotors.com (where most of the swap community has now migrated to) and you'll see quite a few engineers who have spent countless hours developing the "swap" for these cars.

I'll be completely honest, I don't really know all that much about Mazda motors. But, when I was trying to find the weight of my iron 6.0 on Google and I came across an RX7 forum that said an LS1/T56 combo weighs the same as 13BT? and it respective transmission. The iron motors weigh 70-80lbs more, IIRC. 5.3s can be had all day long for $300-400 throttle body to oil pan. Where you'll be spending you money. I spent $1200 for my 6.0 LQ9. This was with 47k miles, fresh rebuild with no miles, and an LS6 cam and spring set. I even talked the guy into giving me some random front accessory pieces to turn in as cores for my f-body accessory drive (since I was planning on going EFI later with a car intake manifold). I spent $530 for my headers, $60 for my mount plates, $60 for the pilot spacer and flywheel bolts to mate it up to an automatic (TH-350). I have spent probably like $500 on the front accessory drive with new/reman parts from Autozone and brackets from Chevrolet. If you're will to run the truck intake and get the truck accessory drive with the 5.3, it makes things significantly cheaper. Then if you wanna go bigger later on, you can bolt in any LSx based engine.
