They changed the spelling to Datsun because Datson in Japanese means "to lose money." Then they changed the name to Nissan. Because of the success after WWII with the Datsun name, Nissan exported them to the USA under that name. The reason why the name Datsun was dropped was because Nissan grew tired of marketing two different names for the same car make. Later, QD.

I have read about the car before and the person chose Grabber Orange. I am pretty sure it is the same car. They are pretty much the same thing.
