Yessir. Came out in the early 70s. Just didn't arrive here until 1980.

I actually had an Escort back in 1990. 1982 model. It was a type that most of you guys have probably never seen or heard of. Later, QD.

In the states (since 1980), yes. I believe the older ones were RWD. The model I owned was also FWD. Later, QD.

Nice thread. I have a soft spot for older Escorts. I had a 88 back in like 96-97 and I loved that POS. Wish we had these here. I would love to own one.

Actually no, they didn't. These cars came basically off the assembly line to the track. Whether it be dirt or asphalt, these cars were modified from damn near the get-go. Later, QD.

"The Mk1 Escort had entered production at the tail end of 1967, and it wasn't long before tuning companies started turning out go-faster goodies to fit the Escort's crossflow engine, just as had been the case with the earlier 105E Anglia, and the tuned sidevalves of the 1950s. The illustration shown above is taken from a glossy single sided leaflet given away by Race Proved in 1968, discussing a pair of hot Mk1 1600 GT Escorts that had received their tuner's touch."

    Later, QD.

no they were raced alot and highly modified, and did very well. even the last Escort GT, was popular during its years. But not a really popular tuner car, peopel that build escort Gts are mostly up north.. hell i sold my GT to a guy from New Hampshire, and my protege shell to a guy in Canada..lol

I would love a ride in that thing. Here is the build thread. You probably won't be able to read it, but the pictures speak for themselves. That guy built and fabricated EVERYTHING on that car.

Do you not like the mods or the paint scheme on that one?

Cause its made to look like the car Frank Gardner and Alan Mann raced in the BTCC and the 1968 Nurburgring race.

I thought he was racing with Mazda during the 70's. I know I saw a picture of him in a rally RX3 in a book.

naw this was in the 90's i beleive in 1995 Rod Millen Motorsports built a 95 Escort GT, and made parts grill - spoiler - turbo manifold - header. it was yellow.. and had a slotted grill.... there was a article about it in motortrend or motorweek. it was the same issue as the one with the Ford Fiesta Shogun.. i believe it was on the cover.. or in one of the pictures in themag.
