Awesome, very nice choice! Are you going to mod, if so do you have any ideas already?

You will like it. I have the exact car, but mine is an 04 Arc. Same engine and suspension, just no front or rear spoiler. That will be changed pretty soon. The aftermarket community is pretty weak, but there are people working on an opensource tune right now. Any questions just ask. Also Saabcentral is a good place to get info. By the way here are some pictures of my car. Yes, that's the same car in both pictures. The metallic color on the paint causes it to look different in certain lighting. You will surprise a lot of people with the midrange power the car has. By the way the 03 model is officially known as the Vector and not the Aero. The Aero name came along in 04.

Let me know if you get new wheels. If the stockers are 18's I might buy them off of you. Saab uses same bolt pattern as my ION Redline (5x110).

My car is a 5 speed auto. The good thing is when shifting in manual it will let you hold that gear as long as you want even past the red line and not interfere. The only difference is when the car drops below 1200 rpm it will shift down automatically. I've been in other cars with the same feature and around 5000 rpm it will automatically upshift. The shifts do come on kind of late and are not instantaneous like a true manual.

Stock wheels are 17's. Only the European cars received 18's as an option.

Yes and no. GM decided to shut Saab down, but I don't think they will be gone for long. Someone is going to come in buy once GM is out of the way so they don't have to deal with them. Saab has great technology which is very valuable in the industry right now. refined turbo technology and the Turbo-X has the latest generation of the Haldex AWD system along with an E-LSD. Not to mention the new 9-5 that probably won't get released had some really nice tricks up its sleeves. The european cars have turbo-diesel and bio-fuel mapping options.

As far as parts those are plentiful. The engines in the newer 9-3's are Ecotec units and the 2.0 is the same engine used in the Cobalt SS supercharged version and Saturn Ion Redline except the Saab is turbocharged instead. The suspension and brakes are found on a lot of Vauxhall/Opel Vectras. The only real issue is a lot of ECU related changes have to be made with the Tech II unit that only the Saab dealers and Saab specialist shops use. I've got an appointment next week to get everything enabled as well as another key made just in case I want to add or change anything down the road. Despite all the computer modules in the car it's really easy to do any maintenance as long as you are not swapping out electronics.

It's been a good car for me. No real big issues. I will say most of the problems reported on the newer 9-3's are from model year 03. It was a first year model and a lot of the kinks and problems were ironed out later in the year and the 04-up cars have a better fit and finish. One of the common complaints about the 03 model are squeaks and rattles inside the cabin. Most of it comes from the door panel and sunroof and it was fixed during the next run (just added insulation). If you are not mechanically inclined and can't do basic maintenance like fluid changes and brake changes I would say stay away and get something else because there may not be any dealer support due to the aforementioned demise. Of course there are still independent shops and a lot of Volvo shops also work on Saabs. M&M Saab is a good shop in Woodstock and their labor rate is pretty low compared to dealer rate of $110/hr.

Btw I knew that was not the car you were buying because the guy that owns that one is topher and he's on SC. His car is lowered on Koni yellows with H&R springs and those are 16's on his car. If you have anymore questions just shoot me a PM. Are you buying this from an individual or dealer?

I like em. Buy what you want, deal with any problems that arise after. If you listened to every person that told you not to get the car and get a car that they thought was better, you would have a different car for every person.

    Do what makes you happy.
