    Default New project- 1960 Falcon!!

I just picked this up today for super cheap. Im super excited and this is going to be my new project car. Starting tues im going to start taking it apart.

The only heavy rust that is on it is where the bottom of the doors where the seals at the door glass rotted out and let water get into the door panel, Other than that it has a real solid body.

Im not sure what color im wanting to go with this but was thinking either a mat black or a pewter gray type color or a dark metallic grey. I already know im going with a red interior.

It has a 170 special with 3 on the tree.

Also i may do it Mat black with red in the middle boddy line and paint the rims red with the chrome caps

Not putting a v8 in it, I want this thing to be a cruiser.. im lowering it and thats about it. ( other than the restoration of course )

Looks awesome, man. I just rebuilt the six in my '62, with some mild upgrades to make it more reliable and more capable as a daily-driver (aluminum radiator, cam, electronic ignition, bigger 1 barrel carb, alternator, etc). If you aren't on the Fordsix forum... go there and set up an account:

    http://www.fordsix.com

Also, the Ford Falcon News is the about only decent Falcon forum I've found:

    http://tffn.net

Also check out http://www.classicinlines.com for parts for the six... some stuff can be hard to find.

I've got a build thread here somewhere I have been meaning to update. I've also got a ton of parts, including a good set of '60 taillights with nice chrome that I can't use.

Thanks for the comments GK & Blender.

Also thanks for showing me the sites Blender really cool ill deff check into them.

First thing we did was take the wheels off because the brakes seized on us.. we got everything cleaned up and lubed up and its back to rolling again lol. Im going to do a disk brake conversion on the front to begin with..maybe in the back as well...still not sure.

The body on this car is unbelievably solid.. Dogleg,Door jams, rockers even under the hood is solid as a rock. Ill be posting pics as i go on this.

    Australian Falcon

Plenty of people from Oz on the forums so there might be a potential source for a RHD conversion. But since the Falcon dash is metal and is welded to the unibody it would be a whole lot of work.

I saw where one guy on the forums is swapping in a Australian Ford DOHC/EFI straight six into a '62 Wagon and doing a narrowed front suspension with air bags. A whole lot of work, but there won't be another one like it anywhere.

As for mine... I'm working on swapping in an overdrive 4 speed (SROD) right now. The goal is to get it set up for sustained cruising at 70-80 MPH.

Disc brakes... I've been trying to get the parts ever since I got my Falcon. If you want to do it using OEM parts you'll have to switch to a 5-stud wheel, meaning you'll have to change your rear end. There are kits that allow you to do discs/4 lug but most of them use GM and Nissan parts.

Fun fact: the 4 lug pattern on Falcons/Mustangs is 4 x 114.3 which is the same pattern many old school RWD Japanese cars use. So that opens up choices when it comes to wheels. The S-12 200SX had 15x6 steelies in 4 x 114.3 and they are not too hard to find.

Yeah, the 4 speed I have is overdrive. I thought about adding a T5 5 speed, but I don't have the $$ right now. But once I get it set up I'm hoping for close to 30.

Theres a couple on the ford forums who race a straight six powered turbo Falcon thats in the 10's. Husband turns the wrenches and wife drives. I doubt they are getting 30 mpg though

What parts do you need to install it? I might have something you need.

I wouldn't have had as much work to do a T5 as this awful 4 speed. But I guess I can still do a T5 later on if I want. You just can't find a decent World-Class T5 under $400 and this 4 speed only cost me $80.

I also have a set of V8 motor mounts... if anyone wants them...

wow that thing DOES look to be solid and straight! RARE find these days, especially for the cheap! Sounds like you already have some good plans for it...and i see you already have a custom hood prop!
