Default G35/350Z+Misc Track Day at Little Talledega

Dkmesa350z of My350Z.com set up a track day for 350Z’s and G35’s. I was able to tag along with some friends who were registered to run their cars. It was a great time. I was the passenger in the black Cadillac CTS-V. Thanks goes out to all who were involved in the planning and organization of this event, those who attended, and a special thanks goes out to my friends Kevin, Kenny, and Albert for letting me come along.

For those of you who don’t know about the track here is some history. The race track is the first of its kind in the United States. Talladega Gran Prix Raceway was originally designed by Ed Bargy as a motorcycle road race course. Typical race tracks were designed primarily for car racing with motorcyclists merely being an afterthought. Talladega Gran Prix Raceway was designed to avoid the use metal or concrete barriers outside of corners, which for a motorcyclist could mean the difference between a major injury or death and just a scratched up bike and set of leathers.

Talladega Gran Prix Raceway was also founded on another very important idea: to provide an affordable place for privateers and race teams alike, as well as clubs and small groups to tune and test their machinery and hold races. To this day, leasing rates are still some of the most affordable in the country.

Here are some of the pics from 4/30/09.

Started off the day by meeting up with some cars at the Thorton Road Exit Chik-Fil-A off of I-20 West.

    Kevin with his drank!

    Albert and Kenny

The infamous Eat Mor Chikin Cow

Some rolling shots on the way from Douglassville to Talledega

Finally got there to set up the cars and get briefed about the track

    Kevin was all smiles until…

He went to go check his tire pressure.

His valve stem cap was seized on and would not budge.

Took a pair of pliers to it and this is the result. Kevin was in the midst of saying a F***!

So we took off the wheel and Albert looked up the nearest performance tire shop available to get the stem replaced

King Tire was open and it literally only took 2 minutes to fix and they were less than 10 minutes away. Thanks again to Keith’s father for hauling us and the wheel to the tire shop in the Megacab! That thing was huge!

Kevin is all smiles again after the fix! Cheap and fast!

Back to the track to get the car ready to roll again! This is Kevin telling Kenny to smile for the camera before he dies!

    Kevin getting all geared up!

    Kenny is psyched!

So the event was underway. There were 3 cars on the track for 15 minutes each. Plenty of time to drive and everyone got nice runs in with a break in between their runs so that their cars could cool down and the drivers could rest.

Took a lunch break and hit up Jack’s! Closest meal we could find. Fried Chicken, burgers, and orange brain freezes! Just what the doctor ordered.

Back to the track to finish out our day.

Kevin adjusting his hair lol at the model shot!

We started dropping like flies one by one! Sleep is contagious!

The last pic I took I tried to get all day. This is the only one that came out semi non blurry! Shooting a rolling pan shot of a car through the trees!

Thanks again to all who came out it was a blast! It was very nice to meet everyone. All the rides are very cool and everyone was very accommodating and laid back. Definitely need to do this again sometime!

Thanks for the coverage bro. It was fun. I wish you were there at the end of the day to catch me spun out. The car gave up after a series of beating through the day

it actually isn't all that hard to organize. there is information on talledega's website. if you can get 15-20 people together you can have the track to yourselves for about $100 each.
