The positive camber was not so much of an issue on the IRS beetles... AGAIN... this car is a swing axle... the US imported beetles switched to IRS in 69 (68 on autostick versions). On the swingaxles, the axles and trans are all one unit and unsprung... so for instance if you were to hit a bump... the whole car will then lift up and the wheels on both sides will tuck similar to that of the picture of my car (not on jack stands, but a jack ;-)) which can allow for the car to roll in extreme circumstances

On the later IRS cars, they are no longer one unit, the suspension and cv axles are independent and there is less chance of positive camber
