Probably the most famous 959 is one imported into the US in 1987 by Microsoft's Bill Gates. The so called "Gates 959" was stored for 13 years by US Customs at the Port of Seattle until the "Show and Display" law was passed. US-based 959s make infrequent appearances at US collector-car events and occasionally are seen being driven by well-heeled owner-enthusiasts like fashion magnate Ralph Lauren
The 959 was not street legal in the United States prior to 1999 when the "Show and Display" law was passed, although an unknown number were imported via the "grey market" during the late 1980s as show pieces. During the model's development, Porsche refused to provide the United States Department of Transportation with the four 959s they required for crash testing, and the car was never certified by the NHTSA for street use in the U.S. With the passage of "Show and Display" the crash test requirements were removed and importation of the 959 was allowed, assuming the car could meet the emissions standards applicable in 1987. The 959 can be fitted with a catalytic converter and a rechipped computer which allows it to meet those emissions requirements. However, most owners refuse to modify their 959s, and the cars remain collection pieces.
Seinfeld and Paul Allen have one as well.. You sure it wasn't a replica? There are so few owners in the States and to have a real one in Georgia is already hard to believe.. But one driving around is even harder to believe.. Not calling you a liar by any means, just hard to believe it was a real one..

Cool. You should steal your godfather's car during the night, and take the A8 to Munich and back. Its a nice stretch of the Autobahn and it's still the same exact path as when Hitler built it. I plan on going to visit the new museum soon, and I could take a train there for cheap, but I usually pay twice as much and rent a car It's a two hour drive, but with a Porsche you might only need one

I need to go back to Stuttgart...all I saw when I went there was a basement with some historic racers and a Carrera GT. The Mercedes museum was something else though, and it looks like Porsche has followed in those steps.

Isn't that what's also referred to as the "Slant Nose," my uncle dreams about this car at night. He has an older model Porsche. His is balls fast. I can't imagine sitting in one of those.

Jerry Seinfeld has many cars but he seems like a dick to me.

Since your in Germany you supposed to keep your camera on you at all times, to snap pictures of hottness when they are visible to the naked eye.

    You got it all backwards.

Ruf made the 1987 CTR Yellowbird in order to compete with the 959.

That's a bit on the opinion side there. I do like them both but i also know that an original 930 with a slant front brings big money at auctions. Much more so than an equivalent era turbo.

It might be an opinion, but most Porschist will agree with it.. I really hate the slant nose.. And I never heard of any slant nose bringing big money.. To my understanding, it depreciates the car and original 930 turbo's are more expensive than slant noses..

Either way, a slant nose is not worth more!

    kbb with 45k miles:

    http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/PricingReport.aspx?YearId=1989&Mileage=45000&Vehic leClass=UsedCar&ManufacturerId=41&ModelId=254&Pric eType=Private+Party&VehicleId=14238&SelectionHisto ry=14238|29949|30076|0|0|&Condition=Excellent&Quiz Conditions=

If you look on ebay right now, there are 3 or 4 slant noses for sale.. all asking a little under $25k (except the one with 12k miles)

Well now seeing a Slant Nose, makes me like my uncles Porsche.

    Because this...

... is what his looks like. I like the non-pop-up headlights best.

The slant nose will always be FUGLY. The 935 sucks because of that but the 934 RSR is HOT!

Congratulations, every Porsche from '63-93 basically look indentical to that and all body parts are interchangeable from '63-96, lol!

...BUT that car you quoted is a 930 wide body with RUF wheels. I seriously doubt your uncles has either of those features

btw, I am not really a Porschist.. Just a FAN BOY..

Porschists also will say that my 911 looks nothing like what a 911 should look like.. They hate the 996 front, pre or post lift..

KBB is not a good source when it comes to classic car values. You'd have to check auction like Barrett, Christies, and RM to see what those would bring. In fact, most Slant Noses you are talking about are probably outside kits. Porsche made very few cars that were actual Slantnose factory optioned cars.

This is like the difference between a Copo camaro and one that has been mocked to look like one.

I'll post more on it later. Check this for a better explaination.
