    Default 2010 BMW M3 CSL

BMW is working on a follow up to the E46 CSL, applying the same approach to an E90 chassis. Like its predecessor, the 2010 BMW M3 CSL will drop standard equipment for weight savings and boost power. More details after the jump.

In addition to the absence of A/C and a stereo, the M3 CSL will also make extensive use of carbon fiber body panels and use cardboard for the luggage compartment, all in an effort to reduce weight. Of course, since reduced weight alone won't justify the $143,000 price tag, power will be boosted 50 HP to 470 HP and production will be limited to only 100 cars. There's no word on whether or not the CSL will use an asymmetrical air intake, but we'll have our fingers crossed when it appears at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

REPORT: BMW cancels development of E92 M3 CSL

    Autoblog.

There were around 1,400 examples of the BMW e46 M3 CSL built, and by all accounts they were exceptionally well received. However, according to Ludwig Willisch, the boss of the automaker's M division, the current e92 M3 won't get the same treatment. He – or perhaps the accountants – feel that "based on current numbers, there is most likely insufficient demand for the M3 CSL."

If a current scorching version of the e92 were to exist, it would have been bumped by anywhere from 36 to 56 horsepower, shed 200 pounds or more, worn some different tires and a set of bigger lungs. In light of the possible volume, though, which would be small, BMW – or again, its accountants – would rather focus on the X6 and X5 for now.

@ that price, if I had the fund I would buy it. 100 cars produced makes it a keeper.

EDIT: Doesn't matter, they are not making it, lol. Thanks EJ25Run

    Yeah....There are plans for a 335tii though in 2012

    Automobile magazine....

The good stuff could start arriving as early as later this summer, with the face-lifted 2009 3-series. That car is under consideration for a tii version that, in addition to styling tweaks, would include M3 brakes, nineteen-inch wheels, a sport suspension, a dual-clutch transmission, and increased boost pressure that would bump the output of the 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine from 300 hp to about 355 hp.

The tii revival gets into full swing with the next-generation models of the 1-series (due in late 2011), the 3-series (out in early 2012), the X3 (also in 2011), and the new X1 (coming in mid-2009). All four of those cars are slated to get tii versions that will have emphatically sporty appearances and exceptional dynamic abilities. The 1-series tii would feature a lighter unibody and use a direct-injected, 2.0-liter twin-turbo four-cylinder good for 300 hp. BMW is even evaluating unique, tii-specific body styles. The most intriguing is the so-called "sharknose" version-a special tii body style for the 3-series. It is almost retro in character, with thin roof pillars, a relatively upright windshield and rear window, and simple head- and taillights, as well as traditional "waterline" styling (which also can be found on the current 1-series coupe and cabriolet). Aslightly longer front end and a cab-backward greenhouse should also help create a quite different tii-only appearance.

It's too early to tell whether the tii game plan will first come into effect on the 1-series or the 3-series or what the exact scope will be. But it's clear that BMW is determined to plug the gap between the sport packages and the M cars, using a more affordable mix of visual and engineering enhancements worthy of the iconic tii suffix.

That is sick! BMW is really stepping it up, and fast. I will own a BMW shortly, just to get a taste of teh "Ultimate driving machine". Then off to the BMW drivers school to get some seat time/instruction in new line of cars.

    Reps sir!

Even the M3 CSL if it was put in production would weigh more than my 5 series. The new m3 vert weighs in at more than 4,100 pounds! Still hit's 60 in 5.3 though.

There is not going to be a CSL. You put a picture to a regular M3.
