    Default rx-8 & rx9

Aite, one last thread before I retire for the night!!! lol

It is a love or hate it kinda of thing wit the new mazda, but i think the new rx9 will be bad ass!! enuff said, pictures and details will do the talking now...

Allegedly, the 2009 Mazda RX-8 RS will be at the NAIAS in Detroit next week, but it will also make an appearance two days earlier at the Tokyo Auto Salon as well. Prior to the showings, Mazda has released a couple of images of the revamped auto.

According to Motor Authority, the 2009 RS version will come standard with 19-inch alloy wheels, Recaro buckets and spoiler. However, with no official word on specs from Mazda, we’ll have to wait until Sunday to check out what’s under the hood.

We have asked Mazda’s Japanese offices several times over the past dozen years when exactly North America might be getting a car that lives up to the RX-7 sports car legend. While the RX-8 is fun enough, it is not quite as angry as we need. And the MX-5 Miata is simply cuteness-on-a-stick for single commuters and beginner circuit racers.

Some people are saying that the Mazda RX-9 is really the second coming of the legendary RX-7. This is because the RX-9 appears to be a regular two-door coupe, rather than having the four-door configuration found on the RX-8. We hear that it'll have something like a 1.8L powerplant, a LSD, and a dual-clutch six-speed transmission.

There's no saying whether these renderings are leaked documents from Mazda or just the wet dream of a Mazda enthusiast. The source could not be confirmed, but I'm liking the prospects myself. Just make sure it's still a rotary.

eh I owned an rx-8 and it was....nothing special.

The interior was nice I suppose but most new cars have nice interiors.

The car itself always felt slow as piss.

I LOVE the new Rx-8 taillights, the seats are also amazing, I'd swap the front bumper for the 1st gen Rx-8 one though. As for the Rx-9, it doesn't live up to the legacy of the FD in terms of styling, but anyone who has been following the 16X rotary development and planned turbo system knows it's going to be the fasted Rx yet. 2008-2012 will be a great time for rotary owners

^^ Yeah, I drew a frame of a man running on each fan blade. That is him running at idle

Lol, the 7 is just ok? The 3rd gen Rx7 is hands down one of the best looking japanese imports in the US.

the body of the rx9 looks like a lexus and a honda cr-z concept had drunken bar sex. By 2012 nobody will want to buy something that looks like that.

I like the new RX-8. It looks like a nice improvement although, I still dont believe the 8 to be in the leauge of the 7 by any means.

I'm agreeing with this entirely, the 9 concept just isn't meeting my expectations for the promised new 7.

If the statement you made is true about the fastest, I might have to consider swapping this new motor into an FD when I get $$ some day.

rx-8 was never ment to be a replacement to the 7.....i mean if turning a 2 seater TT 2700 pound car to a 4 seater n/a 3100 pound car

but in so many ways the 8 out does the 7

One thing I love about Mazda. Where companies try and achieve the perfect power to lag ratio when picking their turbo chargers, Mazda picks whatever size they want, the revolutionize a way to reduce the lag otherwise. Examples

FC (TII)- first car to use a fuly independent twin-scroll turbocharger. A valve closed down to act like a nozzle to channel the exhaust gases at the turbocharger blades at a higher level of speed in low RPM, when the car neared 4,000 RPM, the valve opened and allowed the gasses to hit the by-now fully spooled turbocharger at full tilt.

FD- first sequential turbocharger system, the car feeds its exhaust gases to a small turbocharger that spools nearly instantly, when the gases build up to full pressure, the car switches to a larger turbocharger for the full power

Rx9 (FE?)- will be the first car to utilize a turbocharger that will be pre-spooled to half its PSI output in idle via an electric motor (when the car is in some form of "R" mode so the engine doesn't die early by getting constant boost even at idle daily driving), when the car hits past 2,000 RPM, the engine is already making full boost all th eway up to the 9,000 RPM redline., A blowoff valve combined with the electric motor will also keep the charger from spooling down during gearchanges, when the clutch it release, the blowoff valve re-closes and the electric motor lets the gases take over. The system will allow the turbo to spool down if the brake is pressed sensing that the drivers wants to downshift, once again, this system is only in a caertain driving setting, so those weary of how the new system works can chose to leave it to the familiar old fashioned way of making boost as well.

The Rx-9 will employ the 16X 1.6L rotary, and engine said to possibly be finding its way in the 2009 Rx-8 making an astonishing 280 bhp naturally aspirated. this is unheard of for a road-going rotary engine. The turbocharging system along with tweaking to the block and components expect the 16X-T in th eRx-9 to make about 380 to 430 bhp.

None of that is set in stone (except the FC and FD history information, oh and the 16X block itself, it's actually already on Mazda's website) but everything seems pretty cool, I hope this info helps.

On a side note, I'm not too upset with the Rx-9's looks, I personally didn't expect anyhting to ever top the FD's styling, looking at it (for me) it is the epitome of perfect design, it simply can NOT be further improved over the 99 spec parts.

All I know is they need to make that RX-8 faster. My 18yr old stock 944S2 hung with an RX-8 in 3rd gear, pulled him in 4th, and really pulled him in 5th. I thought those things had more balls. Anything would be an improvement.
