Here are a few pics that I took on Saturday 3 of them are from the BP meet. I leanred about this site from the meet, so I would aslo like to say that I am new here. Hope you like everything. Enjoy:

Not to make this thread an advertisement but if you like the images you see:

Email me at: [email protected] if you want to set up a photoshoot for your car.

A session costs $80 and includes picture taking, digital touching, and wallpaper sized digital files. Hi Res pics are $2 a piece extra and prints can be negotiated. The shoot can last as long as you like and in as many locations as you like as long as it is on the same day.

Some good stuff, and some not so great. I LOVE that Mazda detail shot.

Not to be an ass...but I don't think you'll get any bites as far as your photoshooting. There are people on here who take better photos, and will do it for much less than that...or even possibly free.

I completely understand. I just need some extra cash here and there and the offer is out there if anybody ever needed to know it. Thanks, some of those aren't so great, but I only stayed at the meet for an hour and took maybe 20 pics, those were deemed "keepers" even though I really only like 2 of them. A 6 out of 20 keep rate is fairly good, next time I go to an event I hope to expand my portfolio. Glad you enjoyed them.

Thank you, and I agree with you. I think I know the problem and it could be a number of things. Some of the work flow softened them up but I'm still playing around with that a bit. I autofocused on the ground in the G35 pic I see, and I don't know WHAT I was doing for the 300ZX pic, I think I focused, then backed up, thereby ruining my focus. As for the others, just lowlight plus laziness.

An example of the workflow softening this pic, it got hit the hardest, other pics needed this workflow.

    Where's your focal point on 2, 4, & 6?

On number 1, you're shooting a car at f/1.8 @ 1/8th second, how do you expect anything but the one little dot you're focusing on to even be in focus? You can leave the ISO at 200 but have the aperture at least 4.0-5.6 (@1.3-1.6+ seconds for those night shots) unless you're doing a macro like the emblem shot on number 1. The 50mm f/1.8 will never be sharp shot wide open so don't even attempt it.

Don't center your subjects. Rule of 1/3rds exists for a reason.

Why would you soften a car? The 1980's Penthouse look doesn't belong on automobiles.

    yup.

i see you are also trying to get creative with some of the angles, but it has to tell an over all story with your chosen focus point and not just blah!

and your centering or pic position needs some work.
    do more cropping before editing.

Yeah, the more I look at these the more I hate them. I only like #1 and #5 now, as well as the concept of #4......... I don't really have any excuses but I know and agree with what you all say I did wrong. As for other pics, here are some unedited just because:

tripod not fully locked in place (kept folding and unfolding because I also wanted to walk around without the camera for a bit, would see something I liked, ran back to car, got camera, took pic, replaced camera, walked back, repeat. The whole rushing of the previous mentioned. Not using mirror lockup and timer, using f/1.8, shooting ISO400 and being impatient, trusting the autofocus without painstaking double checking(it is painstaking in the dark), not reviewing LCD for sharpness. Most of all it was the fact that it ws my first Saturday out to this thing and I was a bit caught up in excitement. I might as well post this pic of my car while I'm here. This is much more controlled and better thought out.

The main reason I post all of that, is because I just got a 20D (traded in my XT) last week, so I was eager to use the shots out of that body only.

I understand. No need in rushing, it's not a race and it's not like you're getting paid to shoot as many cars as you can in a parking lot....just survey the area and let the shot come to you. Don't go out hunting for it.

If you shoot a higher f/stop you can help prevent some of those focus issues. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperfocal_distance

On the shot of your own car why was the vehicle cut out in photoshop? Is that artificial bokeh?

good eye, that is because I shot at F/8 for the "sweet spot" sharpness but still wanted the car to stand out. I couldn't quite make a smooth transition line on the ground. I know how F/stops work and DOF and focusing etc. etc. but I appreciate the help. I'm feeling kinda stupid now for posting them up with the small advertisement(last night editing them at 3 a.m. they looked nicer to my drowsy eyes. I really should just shoot for free to get better at what I'm doing. Ok, change the price to free.

Just in case I'm coming off as defending myself too much, I really do appreciate all the advice and I'll definitely put it all to thought next time I hold the camera up to my eye. I think I can really benefit from it.
