Probably started out its life as a non turbo car. VG30DE is also a very heavy motor, you could probably drop 200lbs off the front of the car with an SR20 and have very similar performance to a stockish VG30DETT.

thats about the only thing I could come up with.. but those two engines in the grand scheme dont really compare to me.. Not even the same amount of cylinders. I wouldnt question sooo much an RB... get my thinking

He is claiming over 400 whp, that double stock for a non turbo z and it probably lost a couple hundred pounds. The drift 350zs almost all have sr swaps.

The VQ30/KA24/VQ35 all weigh about the same at 330lbs.

The VG30 is around 450lbs and the VG30DETT is probably a bit more. It's hard to find exact weights (many are listed bare block/accessories/don't say).

There is no replacement for displacement. They can't handle more but with the same mods they will put out higher numbers.

Lets see, the obvious that jumps out at me are:

    1 Cheap ass parts.
2 Incredible aftermarket for the SR motor
3 Cheap motor set to do the swap with
4 Huge sprung weight savings over teh VQ
5 You ever tried to work on a VQ in the car? Nightmare.

Other than those, blaringly obvious things. I would do an SR swap anyday over a VQ or VQTT motor. Much more reliable, light, cheap and a cool swap too.

^^ yeah that's all that swap is.. cheap. the car was made to have a bigger motor so it can afford to push the weight of the car and still make some power. if i wanted to drive an sr-powered car, i would buy a 240. i will agree that the vg is very complicated and a pain in the ass but most people who buy a z32 to mod should already know what they're getting in to and do it anyway just like anyone else who gets a specific car they like to mod.

Could be following a 300ZX drifter in japan who has a sr20 swap...Less weight on the front, better chance of successful drift...But the guy in this video with his 300ZX sr swap didn't do to good...must be driver errors... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44DEsy19EH0 Other than that...I think it's clean swap...Bravo

The SR20 is soooo much more simple to work on, parts are cheaper, and there is a significant weight savings. A stock SR20 puts out nearly the same power as a VG30DE (NA Z32) and can easily be modded to exceed the power of the VG30DETT (TT Z32).

I wouldn't say crap about the SR20 swap unless you've personally torn down a VG.

I want to put a LS2/LS6 in a Slicktop Z32. I've seen two LT1's and one LS1 but nobody had put a LS2 or LS6 that i'm aware of. Now the question is will Yutaka Katayama (Mr. K) want to kill me?

This dude spent all this money on the motor and exterior stuff, and the interior looks like ****!!! that would be one of the first places i would spend money at. As for this VG engine. It will handle alot more horses stock for stock than the SR. a VG30DETT with a good tune can handle up to 700hp on stock internals. Z1 Motorsports in Carrollton built one with almost 1200 hp.
