Nice. I don't think I've ever seen one of those. Didn't they have a previous generation before that one?
cool,love the taillights
Nah not really. Because of the way the cars are designed (plastic body + steel spaceframe underneath) the body is real easy to change, so the designers took advantage of that. There's differences in bodystyles for just about every year of Fiero, 84-88.Originally Posted by Six2Six

A buddy of mine has one and he loves it . Different strokes for different folks i guess. Also said you can do a motor swap with the northstar v8 motor . Some guy in alabama does it forget the cost but sounds cool.
Nah, guy in Alabama does a different motor. A motor I never liked that much, he does 4.9L Cadillac V8 swaps. Those are different, they're pushrod motors that only rev to 5000 rpms and only have like 180 or 200 hp, I forget. But they have somewhere close to 300 ft lbs of torque. I've heard they fly off the line like a bat out of hell, but they die pretty quick in the higher speeds (over 80'ish). If I wanted a motor that died at 80 mph I'd stick with the stock V6.Originally Posted by B18c-rex
The motor I'm talking about is a 4.6L DOHC 32-valve V8 called a "Northstar". They will rev to 6500 and possibly 7000 rpms and produce somewhere around 300 hp and 300 tq stock. That's more my style, and it fits the car better, its a very exotic sounding and feeling motor, and I think it belongs behind the passenger seats of a nice MR car.
Problem is the price. If I went for the 4.9L swap I could've had it in my car last year. IIRC those cost like $2000 or less to put in. The northstars cost a bit more, like almost $10000 to put in. That's because the 4.9L will bolt up to the transmission directly, it'll bolt to the cradle directly, and most of the wiring is very simple. Northstars take more fabricating.
lol yeah different strokes for different folks. I'm a MR car guy, I have these 2 Fieros, and if I ever get the space, I'd like to get a 2nd gen MR2 turbo, an Acura NSX, and a few other cars. About the only FWD car I'd ever want is a CRX, or possibly a Del Sol. And those wouldn't stay stock for long![]()
holy shit! i usually hate fieros because they are all fucked up or ppl make them into fake Ferrari's.... keep it up.. looks awesome and clean as fuck..
Yeah a LOT of people go overboard with exterior modifications... I've seen plenty of Fieros like what you're talking about. Believe me, I go and mod this car mechanically, it'll be all stock outside. You probably wouldn't know it was swapped until I got on the gas. Also, about the bodykits and stuff, I originally wanted to do that to my '86 Fiero, but I got turned off on the idea, because I've only really seen 2-3 kitcars that actually look good. And they have LOTS of money into them. At that point I might as well save up for the real thing.Originally Posted by sHpReLuDe

very nice car bro, my dad had one identical minus the rims.
my friend LOVES them, i outta show him some pics of it.
Not too big on these cars but I think this is the nicest example I have ever seen. Keep going with it, it looks like you treat her right. BTW why have the SE? Parts car?
SE is 4-speed manual and its my daily driver. Gets like 24-25 mpg compared to that stupid 17 I get with that red car and it's automatic tranny.Originally Posted by Fr33way

nice car man, my cousin bought a fiero a few months back. It's in pretty good condition but the tranny took a shit. He's planning on maybe doing the Northstar V8 swap like you mentioned before, or just building a 350 small block for it.
Northstar is the V8 that was used in most late model Oldsmobiles like the Auroras. Indy cars also used a version of the Northstar block for the better part of the last decade.
Last time I rode in one of those we spun it out twice in the rain. I cant even remember who's car it was, a friend of a friend of a friend down in Peachtree City.

Really? I thought that the northstar was a cadillac-only motor. I remember back in 2004 they started putting them into Pontiac Grand Prix's and that's the first I heard of a northstar in something besides a Cadillac.Originally Posted by GTScoob
Nice Fiero! It would be better if it wasn't a flaming plastic deathtrap, but it's still a nice ride.
Yeah, I drove it up to college today, it caught on fire 3 times on the way, and I left it burning as I walked to class. It does that a lot though...Originally Posted by KillTheCrow

I always loved those. that was one of my dream cars back in the dayIf I had this I would have a grand prix gtp 6 swapped in to it. +1 for reppin the poor mans ferrari.

fucking nice fiero son
Nah I like higher revs, that 3.8L supercharged V6 in the GTPs is nice with like 260 hp, but IIRC they don't rev any more than like 5500 or 6000 rpms.Originally Posted by ruffian
Anyone think an Acura NSX V6 swap into a Fiero would work? Heh, wiring would be a bitch. But I'd love that 7500 or 8000 rpm redline.
