    Default Radio Install Issue..

    OK!
So i installed my cd player in my 929, it has a factory AMP in it. So i hook up the radio, it comes on.. But i get no sound. Even the power antennae went up and down. But no sound.. I read that i will have to bypass the factory amp to get it to work, by running wires directly to the speakers. But i know there is a easier solution.. i dont want to pull up my carpet/seats etc.. for this. is there a harness, is there a way to wire up the factory amp to the aftermarket radio?

BTW, the car has a Cd changer/steering wheel controls also if that means anything

Call an audio shop. I had the same problem when I did a head unit install on my friend's Grand Cherokee with an Infinity stock system. He called a shop the next day and it was a really simple fix, I know it was easy because even his ass did it lol. I think there is some kind of adapter piece for it, idk. Sorry I couldn't really help but if you call a good shop (try Audio Wizards) they will probably help you out.

You definitely shouldn't bypass a factory amp. My buddy wanted me to do that, but I told him to just be patient. No point in using the HU as the power source when there's a perfectly good amp there.

yea there is a harness to make it work, my car came factory with BOSE and when i installed my in dash, i had to get a harness that integrated BOSE with the aftermarket headunit. re-wiring speakers is def ftl. any audio shop should have a harness that should more than likely be plug and play for that issue...

you can get an "integration" harness. it probably just needs the remote wire (amp turn on) hooked up.

I work at Best Buy as the lead installer in Fultondale, Alabama. I can vouch for it. We have the integration harnesses. Be looking to spend around 21.00 plus tax.

Do i have to ask for the integration harness? Because i got a regular harness i believe..from Best buy. i went to try to get a amp bypass harness and they didnt have one at best buy, and dont carry it... because of the kind of amp..

If you tell the installer that you have an amplified system along with the year make and model, they should have it.

Should be able to. Even if they don't have it right there, they will have a source to pick one up for you and call you when they get it. Usually the next day or same day.

It looks like we can get two harnesses for that vehicle. Metra wire harnesses, the first is 70-7901 which I think you have and the second one is 70-1781. The first one has two plugs, and the second one has four. So how many plugs do you have back there?

which one is that? I thought about that also, but i havent been able to find a wiring diagram or a Shop manual for the car yet. i think the amp turn on is inside that circular connector could that be?

2 things may be at play here:

    1. Didn't hook up to the correct lead to turn on the factory amp.
    2. Need to bypass the factory amp and connect directly to the speakers.

If it's #1, then you need to find the correct remote turn on lead. I looked up the diagram and it's #4 pin on the 8 pin plug (located at the top right of the left side if you're looking at the plug dead on). It's called or labeled "amp control signal". Be aware that there is another pin output called the exact same thing in the 12 pin plug too. This is why this may be a difficult situation. BTW, on the 12 pin plug it's the #8 pin.

If it's #2, you can connect the output of your HU to the output wires coming out of the amp and then you won't have to run new cable.

Another easier way.......bring it to our shop and let our audio guy do this for you......

You seem a little iffy on the whole thing. Best buy will do it for 20$/15 minutes. If you tell em it is the amp turn on then it will be quick and should not go over 40 dollars. Or go to the other guys shop.

I would have to see the back of the radio and the amp to know where to go with this.

some of the 92-up 929's come with a bose system that only has 1 white harness that has the power, acc, illumination, ground and the other is a black cd changer looking data plug that goes to the factory amp. Not a standard 2 plug mazda harness.

im glad you got it working, i remember doing on at work for the first time back in the mid 90's and tearing the car apart trying to find the facory amp which is located behind the rear seat drivers side, lol. i didnt have any tech tips, metra diagrams or anything.

I still have the factory amp out of that car in my lower tool box, lol

its so retarded how its setup, you would think they would have made a harness for it to be plug and play by now. But i guess not..I cant even find a shop manual for the car cheaper than 80$..
