    Default subs are cutting off

i'm running two jl w3 12's with a 600 watt rockford fosgate amp and i can normally turn it up to full power on the amp (the subs aren't gettin the power they should be so i know they won't blow) but every once in a while they will just shut off..my amp is still on and lit up and after it shuts off when its been turned up really loud i'll turn it up half way and they'll shut off again...the only way they come back on is if i turn my car off and turn it back on...any help would be much appreciated

sounds like the amp is going into protection mode, use a meter and check the ohm at each voice coil and see if one of the voice coils is blown which might be cause'n improper ohm load which is causing the amp to go into protection. Also check the gains, lower it a little and see if you still get the same problem at the same volume level at which it cuts off at. Also you dont wanna have the gain turn to max on the amp that just asking for distortion which can cause nothing but problems. Just because the subs can handle more then whatthe amp puts on RMS, doesnt mean you should have teh gain on teh amp on MAX, that more then likely the problem

If you obseve the sub stop hitting, you could try pushing it down. If the voice coil was blown that would compress them and they would start hitting again. If that is the case you need new subs. Happened to me on my MB Quart.
