So how do you feel about the ten commandments being in public places?

I agree... but it's biggger. Nice try though. Why not post a KKK hat and logo in public too. If you don't believe in it, just ignore it.

They are allowed to aren't they? I know they are allowed there marches and stuff so I'd assume they are allowed to have other things posted as long as they weren't aimed at directly causing confrontations. *shrug* dunno tho.

You're comparing the ten commandments to the KKK? How'd you make that leap? The KKK is associated with decades of segregation and Black oppression(sp). How are the ten commandments offensive? It's common sense in writing. (except for the "whole thou shalt have no other gods before me", which is still open for interpretation). Isn't this a infringment on freedom of speech as well?

its easy to see why some find it offensive
ONE: 'You shall have no other gods before Me.'
FOUR: 'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.'

cmon you can see why people of other religions find it offensive

I see what you're saying, but do the ten commandments have a negative effect on anything?

I'm willing to bet Christians wouldn't want my Ten Commandments displayed in public.

You lose that bet. I could give two shits what you want displayed in public. Hey I have to look at the countless memorials all around the cities and it does not offend me. Why would having the 10 commandments displayed offend you?

I'll rephrase I my previous comment. I'm willing to bet Christians with political clout wouldn't want my Ten Commandments posted. Why would NOT posting the Ten Commandments offend Christians? It apparently horrified our state legislature enough to take action (SOURCE). Why are Christians wasting tax dollars to bring this in front of the Supreme Court year after year? Where do you think the funding comes from to post this Christian hypocrisy? You can have it in your home, in your car, or tattooed all over your back. BUT don't expect my tax dollars to fund your religious rhetoric.

The only signs I want to see posted in a courthouse are the directions for the bathroom and courtroom numbers.

I just do not get it. Does looking at churches while driving offend you too? Would you rather they demolish all of them to make you happy?

If you do not want to look at them in the courthouse, then don't go. Or close your eyes. It is not your house where you can dictate what they put up on their walls. Would you prefer a fuscia colored room and laminates too instead of marble?

What do you not get? Who owns the courthouse? Who should dictate what's on display? It obviously is not you or me. Last time I checked our taxes contributed to the upkeep of that public building. Again, you fail to grasp that our tax dollars are better spent elsewhere.

Would you be offended if a hairy naked 400 pound man paraded around you and your family? I'm pretty sure you would be. BUT all you have to do is look away. Just close your eyes. Would you call the police to have him arrested? Why should he have to put his clothes back on to make YOU happy?

There really is no compromise in this situation. Just b/c the display doesn't bother you doesn't mean it won't bother 25 other Americans. Should their concerns be ignored? Should they have to endure staring at their version of the "400 pound man?"

It's all good in theory, but where would it stop?

Too often people will bring up a possible solution, that is a never ending pit.

IF the gov't allowed anyone's version of the "ten commandments", what would stop anyone from posting something that purposely offends someone else (as you well know and often use yourself)?

The word "God" is in the Constitution of the U.S. and in just about EVERY state's Constitution for the last 200 yrs, yet people are just now getting "offended" by it??? What? People were deaf and mute before? Maybe stupid? Or maybe is it that we have far more whiners and PC sissies today?

Why would NOT posting the Ten Commandments offend Christians?
It doesn't bother me one bit to take them out or leave them in. What bothers me is how the least majority and loudest squeaky wheel is the ONLY one that gets the grease. There are far more important things to focus attention and resources onto than this petty thing.

Why are Christians wasting tax dollars to bring this in front of the Supreme Court year after year?
It's called due process and every single citizen is entitled to it by the Constitution. But I do agree with you that it is a terrible waste of resources.

I suppose if the amount of time wasted by the people that want it taken OUT is OK though????? They as a matter of fact where the FIRST to bring legal action into the mix when they were sooooo "offended" by a rock.....

Again, the gov't wastes tax dollars in the millions every single day. How much does a plaque cost? $10 ONE time? So money should not be the issue. Do the research and see how much of "your" tax dollars are not being embezzled by politicians every day? How much of "your" tax dollars is going towards the funding of fun trips and unnecessary luxuries afforded politicians in the name of serving you? Trust me there are infinitely far greater tax dollar waste in every level of gov't that a mere plaque in the courthouse lobby is not even a drop in the preverbial bucket.

The only signs I want to see posted in a courthouse are the directions for the bathroom and courtroom numbers.
What about law books? What about registries? What about public notices?

My point is that there are far more inflamatory, defaming, and even more mentions of religion in other documents all over any courthouse. Again, WHERE will it end? People have to learn to be a little more tolerant to those things they don't agree with because no matter how much you jump up and down about it, you can only change ONE person's mind about anything.....your own.

Just because you take down a document I agree with doesn't mean I'm suddenly going to forget about or disagree with it.....it's not out sight/out of mind for something like that. Even extremist Christians aren't right about this issue IMO.

It wasn't a big deal until the athiests made a big deal about it. Why is it such a bid deal now?

The First Amendment states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Everything in the Constitution is up for interpretation...just like the Bible. I won't argue that b/c I'd be here all day.

We all pick and choose are battles with how the government abuses its powers. I'm sure there are things that get under your skin. But should it be swept under the rug? Your voice should just as loud as the voice of 200,000 Americans. If you wanted to take action b/c the city of Atlanta is paying $125,000 in fines every month for polluting the Chattahoochee.....I'd support you. I expect all Americans to blow the whistle on government fraud. Will it make a difference? LOL...probably not. But we all still have to try. We can't just look away and hope it blows over.

We have to fight for what believe no matter how trivial. But we are creating a huge divide in this country during the process. I don't see it slowing down anytime soon.

I honestly don't want to see displays of a religious or spiritual nature in any courthouse. We're there for one reason.......to beat the ticket.

BTW, without Christianity there would be no Atheism.

What exactly does it hurt, hinder, judge, or in anyway keep you from any business you have to conduct in a courthouse or gov't building?

If you walk into your friend's house and it's a freaking mess, do you walk right back out proclaiming, "since I keep my house spotless I refuse to come into yours because it's messy..."???? Or do you just suck it up and do what you have to do?

If you go into the courthouse, you have BUSINESS to conduct 99% of the time. Not many people go there to "hang out" and "discuss" life. You go there because you have to do something and get back to your normal routine life. Most people try their damnest to get out faster than they came in.

So why in the world would some statue or some plaque bother someone as they are barreling down a hallway to go pay a ticket or look up something? I'm willing to bet that the courthouses that still have anything remotely associated with this, not one single person that spends a regular amount of time (every once in a while) can off the top of their head name WHERE that plaque or statue IS in their own courthouse. As a matter of fact, most of the time IF it even still exists it is out near the parking lot or in some atrium or lobby. ONE place you pass by in mere seconds, IF EVER.

Why is it that in the year 2006 we are so caught up with trying to change something that was instituted back in 1776? Why not focus our efforts and time on changing things/laws that will benefit MANY rather than satisfy a few squeeky wheels? Political correctness is going to be the death of America as we know it. Everyone is always trying to re-invent the wheel.

It's ironic that people will easily and readily accept the "church's" charity when THEY NEED something, but then want to argue with you to death that there is NO GOD.

My opinion? I don't care either way. My faith is not based on some monument, so it's no skin off my back either way....stay or go. I just get tired of people putting so much emphasis on stuff that in the grand scheme of things doesn't matter.

BTW, I had to vote "yes" as it was the closest to my opinion, but really there should be a choice up there for "don't care".....

Your admiration shines ever so brightly.

BTW, Sibsr20 I'd like to see a copy of your paper when it's complete. I spent way too much time in there today.
