Default Its always about who you know...

Now for anyone who has seen me strugging or is still struggling and actually replied through my messages here now know I have a great job at Chase.

This bugs me. My girlfriends (who hasnt worked a day in her life) family has connections deep in the roots of GA I suppose. She has been hired as a secretary, f/t at this law firm in downtown Atlanta and is clearing $24 an hour.

Now I'm not complaining as she's my lady and I'm getting something outta this, but the point is, this is her FIRST job and the reasoning why she has it is due to her parents connections. I personally get tired of it but I'm glad for her. This just fully confirms that the "who u know" is more important than your skillset.

I worked hard for this position at Chase that provides me with decent income, but shes killing me a far as rates go and its her first AND shes younger than me. Networking seems to be the key, I hope to setup my children for an easy transition (somewhat) to the working life.

^^yea that also works. Then you would be the source they would go to for work or whatever else needed. But in this example its about who u know or more importantly who ur parents know.

That is the way of the business world all around. I consistenly attend seminars and functions in my field, go to lunch, and even attend house socials. Once I get 2-3 more years where I am now, and finish my masters, hopefully someone will lend me that "friendly" help.

My advice to you, get to know her parents, lol!

it took you this long to figure it out?
naw, in all seriousness, networking is key, but ability is also very important.
Once some one hires you because of your relationship to someone else, you better perform, if not, you will cause a strain on everyone's relationship and you probably won't get a freebie again.

But if you have connections and have know how(education, work ethic, intellect, etc), then you truly are at an unfair advantage in comparison to Joe Schmoe.

Naw she's not a sugamomma. She's a sweetheart. But the point being. She got into it purely because her parents knew she was about to start working and they just so happen to be upperclass citizens in Atlanta. Living down the street from T-Pain's mothers house...

Its annoying to me but its also educational (I knew about the who u know thing mad3nchina) I mean... I'm from a part of the country where the per capta is only $23k a year. I happen upon a girl whos family clears 1.2m or more a year (i believe just her father not her mother, she makes more) and I get to hear all this stuff that she does that I've never ever done and it kinda sucks.

I mean, I'm glad I have her, but that doesnt mean I can have her for the money she can access.

I don't think he's crying, just venting. Saying that it's frustrating to work so hard and then see someone else be handed something that you would have gladly worked your ass off for.

Hard work will be rewarded. It just takes time.

I've never been given anything because of connections, come from a very normal family and I make way more than that. I'm a little older but I was making that much years ago. I got it by working my tail off, plain and simple.

Just work hard. See it as motivation. Instead of wishing you had what others have, go out and get them for yourself. With your hard work and her luck, you could end up very comfortable. If you want it, you can get it.
