    Default Unemployment question...?

I recently got laid off from my job, along with 8 others form my marketing department and I have filled for unemployment. My question is, am I still able to work and receive unemployment? I have been sending out apps for a new job in my field but have not has any luck. I plan on getting a part time job to pay my bills as if/when i get unemployment that is NOT going to pay my bills. IN GA is it possible to do so?

ohh and a little FYI for anyone who cares to curse me for being lazy...I have always been a hard worker and worked to get where I am at now...It was no fault of my own to being laid off and im not stealing any of your money, nor sitting around on my ass. Im trying to get a good paying job but no one is hiring. SO lets make this an informational thread and leave it at that...

Travis, sorry to hear about your situation. Hope this helps. You might want to double check though.

If you work and earn any money while you are drawing benefits, you must report all earnings for the week in which the money is earned, not for the week the money is paid. Any amount over $50 earned during a week will be deducted from your weekly benefit amount if you filed your claim on or after July 1, 2002. Any amount over $30 will be deducted if you filed your claim on or before June 30, 2002.

yeah, it sux! thanks for the help but its kinda more confusing as when i log on to the GaDOL site and answer their questions this note is on there "If you filed your claim on or after July 1, 2002, and worked and earned $50.00 more than your weekly benefit, contact your local Georgia Department of Labor Career Center."

Which makes me think that i can earn what i get a week from unemployment plus $50 and not go over and still get unemployment...?

Thanks Sean, I hope you get the job. I have been to 1 interview since my layoff and while on the interview the guy interviewing me said that I have a lot going for me that qualifies me for the position however we (as in they) were/are looking for someone older, more like the age range from 29-34...

not sure if ur question has been answered yet bc im lazy but: If i recall correctly, ur unemployment stops once u get a job. unless its under the table money of course. i got canned once and found a job b4 i got approved for unemployment so i cant say for sure.

i think u get a percent of what u made, not the full salary. and if u quit looking for job your unemployment money stops as well. good luck man

but see that where i think there is a hole...as it also says that I get to keep my unemployment if I find work....its all really confusing.. I have the papers but with the mumbo jumbo on there, I would need to hire a lawyer to read it and tell me what I can and cant do...

thanks man i should be hearing from the place in a couple days im gonna call them if i dnt hear from them by tues. srry bout your job interview. the thing im worried about is: im plenty qualified for the job and i have lots of experience in the same field of work- but there are lots of more experienced, older applicants that may get th job instead of me.. soo many people are out of work right now...things are BAD! GL homie.

as far as the unemployment goes. you stop collecting once you find a job. if you find a job that doesnt pay enough to support u they give you partial unemployment i think. hope that helps. i'll be looking into unemployment myself.

they told me about the age thing before I went into the interview...Its 40 mins away from me a a sign shop.....I can find a sign shop thats within 5-10 mins from me instead of working there. As much as it would have been nice to work of them they felt that they needed ppl their age so they could BS with (in my opinion) and me being younger doesnt mean I dont know how to have a good time while working...

good luck Travis...as long as you ain't working you get it provided your previous employer will pay it...I got screwed a few years ago when I was in between jobs because my previous employer said I had violated company policy...they put me and 20 other peeps out on the street before closing due to bankruptcy...they can get you on the stupidest of things...hope you get back to work soon...

What was he making at his old and new job to even think about supporting a $2000 mortgage.

ANY wages earned must be reported every week when you call in to file for your UE check, if you earn money and do not report it and they find out, it's fraud and you will pay back every red cent they gave you! a random number of ppl are chosen every week and the lucky few have to take classes, once a month for 3 mos, 2hr long talking about resumes how to interview etc...others just get checks in the mail. they base the rate off ur past 2 jobs, when i was on it i was actually making more than i was working! but i made 13.50 at my job i was laid off from and 18.50 before that so i actually ended up receiving around the same as a 15$hr job 40hr a week, it was hard going back to work i wont lie, i made more staying at home taking care of my newborn son than i did working! not to mention daycare for him was going to be 180$ week! so i would have had to be making 20+ per hr to compensate for gas+daycare to match what i was making on UE, i rode mine out...and to all the peeps that think ppl on ue are lazy...in some cases yes, but if you got paid MORE to sit home and raise your newborn without having to worry about a steady income...please lie to me and tell me you would go to work instead...think of ALL the paychecks you have gotten...were gross you made 1500-2000$ on a 70hr week...and you only bring home 800-1200 after uncle sam takes his cut...i did not feel a bit guilty! thats my

if you were actually laid off or fired at no fault of ur own you will receive benefits. i was laid off then my prev employer tried to say i was fired, they opened an investigation and found i was laid off (because the other ppl he laid off had the same story) and once they determine that the previous employer does not have a say in the matter.

Yeah I just got accepted but what I'm wondering is if Im going to be able to work and still get unemployment? I plan on claiming what I make when I make money but I am just not sure if its possible to make money with a part time job and still keep unemployment. Cuz I sure am not making what I was!

I was Laid off a couple of weeks ago but it was only for a week. I make $19 an hour and got $330 for unemployment on that week which is the equivalent of $8.25 an hour on 40 hours. I was told that if I worked any that week it would mess up my unemployment.

Do they take out taxes for unemployment? I'm getting money directly deposited HOWEVER it isn't the amount that I was quoted to receive.
