Default Who has seen losses in their IRA/401k?

Just making a point here, anyone seen a significant loss in the past couple of weeks?

Mine has lost about $5000 in the past two weeks, about 1/3rd of my entire 401k.

I've lost about 37%. Last January I had about 180K........Today it has 120K. Yeah I really feel like I'm getting :idb: but I have 20 years until I want to retire. Stocks will eventually go back up.

I havent bothered to look. Almost all my 401k is in agressive growth. I have plenty of time to lose everything and gain it back multiple times over. So why look and panic

I'm not saying look and panic, theres a member here that says nobody should be seeing losses in their portfolio because their family member has not..

I made the point that someone that is looking to retire off of their 401k in the next year or so just got set back quite a bit in the past few weeks.

Yes, I have taken a loss of about 25% but 401K is a long term investment and I plan to stick it out and regain my losses.

They should talk to a professional investment manager. People who are very close to retirement are in the worst position of all right now. Those of us with 30+ years to retirement should not be freaking out.

What bonds? My grandma saw all this coming and switched about a 1 1/2-2 months ago a big portion of her portfolio to bonds.

I'm in the positive, but I wasn't in a very aggressive portfolio at all. None invested in stock, all bonds and treasury bills essentially.

Whoever said that clearly doesn't understand 401K's. The whole point of a 401K is the reduce individual stock risk and only assume market risk through diversification.

401K's are like boats in bay that rise and fall with the tides. As the water rises (market) so do the boats (401K).

BTW, I'm down 39% as of 10am EDT today.

I luckily managed to keep from taking to bad of a hit, but now I am aggressively buying as much as I can afford. You have to take advantage while the prices are down to get as many shares of goold stock as you can afford. When stock prices get high, bond prices will be low, so buy them up then.
