whats the best way to get started in investing money like in stocks/mutual funds?

Do a lot of reading up on investing in terms of how to buy, what to buy, when to buy, etc etc; open up an account with a company like E-Trade or TDAmeritrade, and then buy your stock/mutual fund.

i use Scott Trade. Most of the trades are $7 a trade. I use Google to look up charts (just type the symbol in the search box). it allows you to see everything: volume, price, and they have a message forum for each company on google. also seekingalpha.com is a good place to learn about some opportunities.

Sharebuilder.com is a good one to use too with low prices. Also, check out websites like www.fool.com which offer some very good tips.

now is not the time to put your money in stocks.... put it in gold and silver or other commodities... youre just pissin in the wind with stocks right now. my brother has made over $1200 in the last 4 months because he bought a few gold coins....
