    Default who files taxes online?

im sure this is posted every year around now.....but im just wanting to see what online sites you guys used or what you use and would recommend using over the websites. last year i used taxact.com, i was pretty happy with that, i even had something messed up and i guess they audited it and i had to redo some stuff. it was still under 3 weeks when i got my money back, from the start date. either ways just wanted to know what you would recommend using or if you used them and would again. if status matters for what can get you the best results, this year im married, one kid, now in the military, cant think of anything else it asked

    IBTM

I did it last year and was highly impressed. It was completely free and I got my return direct deposited in 5 days. Very cool.

Only reason I am not doing it this year is because I have more in depth filings with writing off shiitloads of food and accessories that I have bought the last 6 months. It'll be nice getting a truckers return this year. Later, QD.

Hey QD, I was thinking of filing this way as well this year. My question is how much is the overall price of the service? Now when I went to the filing site, it had 3 packages for assistance in preparing the tax return out.

So if I use H & R's site is it just $19-$29- or $44 charge or is it that plus whatever my refund is? See I know most tax places charge you based on how much of a return you get, I'm wondering is this the same.

Also how quickly does your money get to you? Also how accurate is that tax calculator in relation to how much you got back?....Vegeta

I don't think I paid but $19 last year. And I got back over $3,500. It was in my bank account in 5 days flat. Later, QD.

dont you active duty guys use mypay? you can access your w2s there. i already have mine and have filed but im civil service, we get ours earlier than you. i think active duty w2s will be ready on the 22nd. if you dont have any itemized deductions i would probably just turbo tax that **** and get it direct deposited into your account....i do it every year and its always a smooth process.

I've been using www.Taxslayer.com the past two years, I think it was like $15 to use it for me, and if I remember right, I got my return direct deposited into my bank account in under a week.

Okay, to the people who used the H & R Block site. Did you get the same refund amount as you did having someone else( I.E anyone else) prepare them?

I ask because I went to the site, & they told me based off my entries that I should be looking at $6400. So what I wanna know is if I start doing it this way online & at the end my refund looks like $4200 am I stuck with it? lol

I have always heard the " it's sometimes who does it", maybe I get more deductions that I'm unaware of, so will the H & R site inform me of that, or would I be SOL? lol

I'm personally trying to avoid taking it into a tax office as I'd like to keep my nearly $400 in filing fee's. Because I may try to do this Friday when the IRS is officially open for return filing....Vegeta

same here... they're nothing special... but they have ALLLLLL of my info on file so it literally takes me like 15 minutes... (mines isn't too complicated though, only input all of my w2's and i'm good)

it takes me like an hour to do my parent's on tax slayer

they add a fruity little cover page to the PDF and u can log in any time and download any of your past forms... so is OK... hey charge you to do that lol

novel business concept on their end.... but they nickel and dime you a lot once they get you hooked.

i was also wondering about this.

the past 2-3 years ive used an online return service, that was fairly speedy. however, im not that old, and in those first couple years of my first jobs with school and all, only made about 10k and got about 700 back.

but now, i made 30k this year and i want something more professional and detailed to take full advantage of what may be returned to me.

would i need to take my paperwork to an actual person? and is the premium paid worth the gains i may receive?

i drive a LOT for my work, and i've been living on my own since june. everything is in my name. ive retained all paperwork from doctors/dentists ive been to, bills i pay, etc. any advice?

If you make less than 54,000 a year you can file for free on the IRS website:

It's not actually on the IRS website, the IRS has partnered with a bunch of tax sites to allow free filing if you use the link on their website. You get to pick which one you use and all of the popular ones are there.

I'm an accountant and I use TaxAct. I like their interface and it always comes out right since I can easily check it by hand myself.

Most young people do not need to pay a preparer to have their taxes returns prepared. I've had people with no kids, no house and no other significant deductions tell me they spent $300 or more to have their taxes prepared and that's just crazy. Throwing money away. The software and websites are good enough and much less expensive. It pays to learn just a little bit about taxes so you can avoid paying others to do them.
